It is true to the comics and hasn't been whitewashed in this instance. However, the Iron Fist character has been accused of falling into that "white person does other people's culture better than they can do it themselves" trope.

I think so, but it has intensified in this era of PC and SJW influence. It's a valid complaint I believe, but at this point the character has too much history to just write him off.
