Force?...Or...Does he have a marketable project with a budget behind it that people enjoy and want to support?

You think his music is good?

Thought it was good in 2011...Still do...However, I admit that his flow on "Can't Hold Us" is terrible and some of the lyrics are corny...People don't like that song for the verses anyway, so whatever...Other than that, he's a thoughtful/personal writer with a creative approach and dope production...Ion see how that's wack...

I feel like he's the first white rapper since Eminem to truly cater to whites. I don't know if I can say his approach is creative. But I wouldn't care about this dude if he was considered a pop act. But he's being trotted out there as a "hip hop" act when his music is not hip hop. That's why I have a problem with him. Eminem may get hate but at least he gives props to cats that influenced him like Redman. Unless I missed it has he even given any props to anybody? To me he's the biggest culture vulture hip hop has ever seen.

Yes...You missed it...He's given plenty props to rappers who inspired him and his contemporaries...Do your research...Before he got with Ryan Lewis, his sound was boom bap-ish...

Who were his influences and I assumed he had his own version of "Infinite" before he changed his style to pander to gays.

He didn't change his style to pander to gays...Jesus, y'all...Smh...If Common or Nas made "Same Love" y'all would swear it was some deep revolutionary new age civil rights shit...

If it really matters to you who he was influenced by...Listen to his old songs/interviews...

The reason why I ask is because I'm not familiar with him or his music. He comes off as a guy that used hip hop elements without giving a fuck about hip hop.

I dont fuck with his music but the white community is gonna really latch on to macklemore because its their "hip hop" artist who's music they can actually vibe to. Hes gonna do great numbers on his next album too. He gonna be at alot more award shows performing.

Now we just gotta make sure hes never at the BET awards.

We'll see with the second go around.

He had 3 hits plus an independent grind he prolly making more than your favorite rapper.

I won't rule out future success

smh...

if the white dude was talking black and rapping about drugs and sh*t, dudes would be screaming about him acting black...dude is rapping because after all doing hip hop is not subject to only one race...and he is being true to hisself and of course on this forum whose taste and reality to music is ass backwards got something to say about it!

only on the net....

Due to the fact that he's an independent rapper hes gonna be successful. Hey he found his niche and rode that muthafucka up to the top........HOW CAN U HATE THAT??? If anything rappers should be taking note from him and Tech-9 on that independent route cuz everybody isn't record label material.

All anybody is saying is that he sucks and he isn't hip hop. I don't know what you're even talking about. Other white rappers get props. Action Bronson is dope and he makes hip hop. Macklemore does not make hip hop.

Techn9 makes hip hop and not once did MTV ever play his videos much less nominate him for their awards.

No the "Thrift Shop" song is annoying as fuck because it reminds me of that hipster shit where "it's cool to look/dress poor". Shit is stupid. I do think it'll be interesting to see if he attacks white privilege in his records and interviews more like he's getting attention for "Same Love" in more than that one song. Right now it's like a footnote and everything is about the song he wrote for gay people. That's cool, let them get married, now you a white rapper with millions of ears at your disposal...drop White Privilege as a follow up and see if it gets the same positive reaction

Tech 9 makes just as much "alternative pop" shit as you swearing Macklemore does...Tech 9 started out touring with fucking ICP...And yes, he's had videos on MTV, FUSE, and BET...But he makes hip hop and Macklemore doesn't...Get the fuck outta here...

do you know what hip hop is, do you know the difference between hip hop music and rap music????? Do you realize at one point fresh prince, salt n pepper, tribe call quest, etc.. made "fun songs/hip hop music similiar to what macklemore does now???

what hell you know about hip hop, you getting bent out of shape cuz dude exhibits some success, does not follow no trend and from what i can tell is actually liked by his peers in hip hop, and his peers are majority black..

Nah Tech-9 also makes that alternative WTF music also. But his music doesn't not translate for ANYTHING major thats why i don't hear from him. I seen one of his videos on BET after Lil Wayne gave him exposure on Carter IV.

Him and Mackelmore are no different except Mack caught a rocket and shot that bitch to the top. But take nothing away from Tech-9 cuz even tho his music is major doesn't mean this dude isn't successful cuz he most def is.

Tech n9 makes hip hop for the most part. Plus I don't recall seeing his videos on television.

if u dont like his music then fine, but it's more not about hip hop if your ass brings up his skin color..u lost for lack of musical intelligences.

Rap music is apart of the culture known as hip hop. There is no separate entity known as hip hop music and rap music. He doesn't suck because of his skin color there are plenty of dope white rappers on the scene now. He sucks because his rhymes are wack and he doesn't even make hip hop music. He's a culture vulture.
