Macklemore do you think he'll have sustained success?

Ironic that it was Macklemore winning Song with a Message... but I know songs by other hiphop artist that speak on social issues will most likely not get that same love and respect.

your peers support it...so dont just blame the artist, blame the fans that support them too...and it aint all white people either....

and drake and macklemore actually have talent...2 chainz, trindad james and all that other bullsh*t is what's wrong with hip hop...

u clearly dont get that hip hop as far as the industry goes is a billion dollar business...radio, record companies only care about what the youth is listening to. it's always been that way, it will never change. just now the music of today just down right sucks....

u wanna support your fav artist goes to his show, stop capping for him/her cuz he aint on t.v., that aint for you to control, that is for him/her to control if they care to.

jo jo pelligano aint trying to be mainstream

neither is apathy either..

Possibly. I think hes aight. I think something you gotta realize that everything ain't for everybody.

Somebody you might find dope, might be wack to somebody else.

It's bullshit music to you...How bout all the gays and friends/relatives of gays who appreciate the message in that song?...Should it be bullshit to them too?...And you can't tell me the beat or the singing was wack on it, so what exactly is bullshit about it?...Drake has nothing to do with this conversation...There wasn't a mainstream single(which is what the VMA's are about) in rap during the timeframe that award was allocated that was better than "Same Love"...

Of course you don't care. I bet you'll start caring once it affect the rappers you really give a fuck about.

You know what I do for the rappers I give a fuck about?...I buy their albums, bump their tapes, try to go to their shows, and help spread the word about them on the Internet and in real life...Try that out one day, hip hop head...

If he is one of those dumbasses that believes gay rights and civil rights are one in the same then he can go off himself.

And to the people that like him and what he stands for, fine. I just think he's a cornball that has a terrible delivery and is not doing anything "new" or different from many of hip-hop's pioneers and legends...

Except pandering to gays. Which is a cop-out, Imo. Especially in today's climate. That shit is a surefire way to garner a mass following.

Hip-hop ain't meant to be on that homo shit.

Real talk one of the reasons among other things I stop fucking with a couple dudes I grew up with... they are big Lil Wayne fans..I dont mess with Wayne on any level..

I buy albums and go to shows at SOB, BB KINGS, Roseland, Studio 48 to support the MC I like.

Artist, stupid fans, labels, dj, radio corportaions, Viacom are all to blame...and all the music for most part on the radio is trash.

I buy albums from rappers I like too. But unlike you I see the bigger picture. It's hard for cats to crossover as it is and "rappers" like Macklemore is gonna make it harder.

There you have it...

Wow...This nigga really said..."I stopped fuckin with my childhood friends because they are fans of a rapper I don't like, amongst other things"... If that ain't the stupidest angriest ingantest shit I heard this week...

I said this in another thread but here it goes.

He's trying to get in where he fit in. The economy is down so he releases a track like Thrift shop. That white hipster demographic he's targeting can relate to that. Ryan Lewis laces him with a catchy beat and the hook is reminiscent of something we heard before - Nate Dogg - and you have a hit.

Gay rights are a hot issue right now so this n*gga makes a joint like "Can't hold us". Nothing wrong with that, but you see how he's trying to appeal to fans outside of that 'urban' demographic. Two instances of where they're trying to bypass that urban demographic with their brand of what passes for hip hop. This sh*t happened to other so-called black genres. Real heads see what's happening.

On his independant hustle story. I see what they're trying to do. Every rapper gotta have a story of how they came up, how they beat the odds. Even soft rappers that had sh*t handed on a silver platter like Drizzy are making tracks like "Started from the bottom". They been trying to act like Macklemore grinded independantly to where he's at now. I had my doubts only to have them confirmed. Some journalist did some digging and exposed some truths (check this linkhttp://raprehab.com/macklemores-indie-rise-is-simply-a-white-lie/).

I think there's a market for a rapper like Macklemore but I'm not feeling this n*gga for the simple fact he's offbeat most of the time. Ryan Lewis is the real reason behind their success IMO. How you been rapping since '00 and you still can't catch a beat for sh*t?

The fact they are heavy weed heads, near alcoholics with no job or money but spend every weekend getting wasted and turn up is another... Being Lil Wayne Fan just one of the reasons..

Off jump if you think Lil Wayne, Macklemore, Drake are dope or make good music, to me your music taste in hiphop is trash and absolute garbage and most likely have nothing else in common.

macklemore is a sub par corny rapper that has some good moments from time to time. His sound is more popish than hip hop. I call him hip pop. Them singles he release shouldn't be getting all this recognition at all.

...And I LISTEN to some shit before I judge it...Rather than spouting off a buncha ignorance about a rapper whose catalog I haven't een heard...

I kinda feel where you coming from but you lost me comparing macklemore to tech n9ne SMH. Then you said tech started off touring with I.C.P. Which is wrong as hell!!! I can tell you don't know much about him and just googled some shit real quick lol. Also tech always does hip hop and sometimes mixes it with rock. Show me some tech n9ne pop sounding records? Drop one song that sound like "can't hold us" from nina. You straight disrespected bruh, lol tech been out since the early 90's and blew in mid 2,000

Now if you would have compared him to mac miller(who is actually hip hop and really nice) that would have made more sense.

macklemore aint fucking with shit like this, SLAP YO GOD DAMN SELF NIGGA!!!

Yes and no. The type of music we all listen to is often indicative of our personality, is it not? Not saying he's completely right, but I think he worded it wrong anyway.

Not saying we can't enjoy different artists either, but if your mindset is Common and Daft Punk how much will you have in common with someone that has the mindset of Gucci and Wayne?

never checked for his songs, but ive heard him rap on BET of all places and he can rap a bit, ion know much about him but i wouldnt say he's not hip hop(mainly because its dumb as fuck to say someones not hip hop just cuz they dont rap the way u want em to anyway) will he sustain success, who knows but shiiit he platinum off an indy album, he should be str8 for a while, and he seems to be stayin true to himself to me, thats all u can ask

I hope y'all don't complain when your favorite upcoming rapper can't get on because the radio is infiltrated with a bunch of Macklemore sounding motherfuckers. If y'all don't see the writing in the wall and what Macklemore blowing up means then y'all gonna be in for a rude awakening.
