Can you imagine having all this great music just sitting on a freaking shelf b/c the record label doesn't feel the shit is poppy enough. Meanwhile you have to listen to this bullshit out on the radio? I dont blame him for being frustrated.

Atleast Lupe is living by his words and not "Dumbing It Down". Obviously though "Superstar" is a great song, it's clearly Pop and "Nothing On You" was nothing more than "Superstar II", eccentric singer with a pop hook over a happy beat. Lupe wasn't having none of that and they shelfed the album. But they have to put an album out, this is getting crazy, it's been damn near 3 years since "The Cool". I'm all for taking the time off for artistic creativity but 3 years Lupe? But it's obviously not his fault. Labels want balance. They say, "Ok, you want an artistic album, then give me atlest 3 or 4 singles to sell it". "Lazers" obviously had to be very artistic, which makes me hope it's released in the future. Poor Lupe, I guess he should of stayed independant. This is what happens when you sign to label folks. You loose a certain artistic freedom and Lupe is struggling with that right now.

How frustrating must that be for him, I'd be proper pissed off having to sit on my own material like that. I've known of artists who have recorded albums and the record labels have forced them to scrap the whole thing and re-record it meaning the original material is basically lost. At least Lasers still exists in some form even if it it is basically shelved. He's sticking to his guns and not just throwing mixtapes out for the sake of it (regardless of what the majority opinion on The Reason is he's right, it does cheapen you as an artist) so fair play to him.

I think he should drop a mixtape. Yeah, too many mixtapes can ruin you, but one or two isn't that bad. He wasn't on talking shit about mixtapes when he used them to get on. I think he should put out a mixtape of original material while he shops a new deal, and if one catches a buzz he can rerelease it as an LP or Ep like Drake did with So Far Gone. Mixtapes show what artists can do without the Label interference, it should be ideal for Lupe. However, I agree that rappers should release a mixtape once a week or month, etc.

"People are happy, fans are cool, some people aren’t cool. But I’m not doing it for the Internet dudes on the message boards who don’t like nothing. Who are always comparing you to somebody else. I’m not doing this for you to have one more piece to play in your game of “this rapper is better than this rapper.” I’m not in competition with nobody. I want to make good music for my fans who want it, who enjoy it, who learn something from it. And that’s what it is..".

Shots at the IC...

Lol...exactly what i was thinking when i read that part.

Hoenstly I think Lupe sounds like a whiny bitch. If you want to be succesful in the music industry you have to learn to play ball with the labels and work with other arists. You can't just say "f" it I'm gunna go totally left field and not work with so and so because they are "mainstream" *cough* The Cool *cough*.

Every classic album has some kind of hit on it that people identify that album with. I'm not saying he needs to make a "Nuthin On You" record, but hook up with Kanye or the Neptunes again and make something that isnt eccentric for the sake of being eccentric.

The outro to his Food and Liquor album is long as fuck i mean damn near 15 minutes. I was listening to F&L today cause i aint played it in a minute and realise that this has to be the longest outro i have ever heard of in rap album. I guess Lupe was trying to set a record or something LOL!!!

Yeah that shit was very long, I guess he wanted to shout out all the people who helped on the album and all his people out there.

That outro was long as hell, and what made it so bad was that i thought the beat was hot and i wanted him to rap over it. I wish he would have rapped the names out for 15 minutes, that would have been hot.

2 months ago the WeWantLasers Petition was started and over 28k people signed it so far but the only reaction we got from Atlantic Records was a tweet saying "Lasers is coming" and that's not enough!

If you think the petition would be the only thing we'd be doing to get this album released - you're wrong! On October 15th, Lupe Fiasco fans will gather in New York City to protest in front of the Atlantic Records Headquarters!

So if you're in New York or close - be there! Wear the Lasers Uniform and bring picket signs! - If you have friends in New York - tell them about it!

And for all people who aren't able to be there, spread the word online! (Twitter / Facebook, Blogs etc.) or if there's an Atlantic Records building in your city, you can go there, too.

For more info's, the exact location & time check/join THIS Facebook group!

(also check the RSVP Page!)
