Longer Consistency vs Shorter Massive Success....Which Would You Prefer???

Its almost like the lottery analogy where if you win the lotto would you rather have that one major max pay out of just get a fat check every month....I just can't see how living off of that small time period is good unless you plan on just falling back completely and getting out the game but if you still tryna remain in the game then your whole career is gonna be compared to that one lil time period where as steady consistency means you can remain a factor for as long as you decide to keep doing this....I mean look at 50 you can't get into a convo with him without his glory days of GRODT coming up and that was 10 years ago whereas a Ross or even somebody like a j.Cole might keep going gold every time out but they remain relevant.
 
Massive success. I'd rather get my money and invest then be a puppet slave to Live Nation having to tour 300 days a year at 52 years old.
 
Consistency. You're in it to make music you feel and wish to share with the world. You have something to say and music helps push your thoughts. The money is great as well.
 
Nice & Broke vs Rich & Wack?

I rather be nice & broke. Most niggas can live with that " im wack but im paid so what" mentality. But when they run into someone thats truly nice, they will lose everytime. The art of it will show.

nelly may not sell like he did in the early 2000's (nobody do) but dude is still successful.. there is niggas that would love 2 have the career span nelly has.. nelly still makin moves and is doin shyt consistently... nelly has been "fallin off" since 06... yet still doin tv and dropin decent songs on the charts.. its 2014 thats a long ass "fall off"
 
All these rappers made multi-millions so I'd take any career I could get even if it's Bow Wow's.

I got next, watch out for my mixtapes late this year and album to follow next year.

First off, I want to make it clear that this question isn't asking would you sell your soul to get money. It's asking which career path would you rather have.

Personally, I would choose massive because you make a bunch of money in a short period of time, and are free to do what you want from then on. I can go into movies (acting and writing), run a couple of businesses, start a couple of charter schools, AND still drop an album every once in awhile for my core fans. It gives me the freedom to switch it up.

Not to mention, the music game is shady, and I'm not a big fan of fame. I look at fame as more of a curse than a gift, so the short massive career gives me enough time to slowly undo the fame part lol.
 
Question needs more context for me to give complete answer

is my consistency recognized? & if so what level of success am i at. ill be the Ross example u named but not Killer Mike where i still need a job or do somethin else. i need to be paid AND revered for my passion & effort.

for the massive success- do i just fall off or fall back. huge factor

Common was around for 13 years before he had what could be considered short massive success for him

but then it took Jay 3 albums and he hasnt looked backed.

Look at Cee-Lo he had his period where he was makin eclectic consistently good music & not bein fully acknowledged then BOOM he can do whatever he wants and he's hugely successful and genius acknowledged.

Tribe had a 4-5 year run and they are cemented.

Lauryn Hill & D'angelo had enormous success in a short period & even tho it was outside issues they are enhanced by that

where as Snoop has been successful for 20 years & been fallin off since his 2nd

If the assumption is im always gonna be makin quality music or music of a certain level just the amount of time i do it or recognition i get for it im takin Massive Success. every time.

What I'm referring to is being recognized as a consistently good artist who's albums never reach that massive superstar status but you continuously but out quality music year after year and you do pretty good numbers as opposed to an artist being recognized as dominating the game for a short period then spending the rest of their career living off that one time period.... Not saying they aren't doing other things along the way but their whole career is defined by that one time frame.... Money wise shouldn't be a factor as ppl are saying since in reality artist aren't necessarily getting rich off their album sales it's what you parlay that into is what makes you rich so we can throw the who's richer aspect out
