In this current climate this is THE BEST way to go about music. The majors have been losing money for the last 6 years, its scary wen the artist is seeing better returns than the label (w/ this in mind think of how the smaller guys who arent household names would hold up in this environment) & have to go about owning everything even shit their not entitled to SMH. I think politicalthug said it best, dude coulda did 80-130k the first week if he signed for a major but wats the point ? so he can get fame that he already has & sell more so he looks better to the fickle general public ? SMMFH.
Wait till 50 comes out cuz hes in on that too. Fif is guaranteed 400-500k the first week & is a int'l superstar so w/ that in mind imagine how good that is wen all of that is going straight to ur pocket. the tours alone will break records. The music industry is going thru extensive reorganization & these types of deals are wats allowing for that. The next major format is going to be digital sales.
