if someone is in gov't assisted housing, its b/c they probably don't have a job. those housing projects may be inside a district w/ bad schools. now how many of the better school districts have projects or gov't assisted housing inside it? Oh, so maybe they should get a job, right? well with unemployment hovering around 10%, even people with 4 year degrees, masters degrees, etc... can't find work, so what makes you think some thugglette can up and get a job, get off gov't assistance, pay to move all their belongings, probably get transportation, and then afford rent and utilities that they've never had to pay in their life? But lets do say they have a job and some income. most likely its just enough to get by. they might pay $500/month in rent, well across town in the good district, $500 might get you a one bedroom apt. so where your kids that you moved to get into a better school going to sleep? come on man. alot of people aint doing shit b/c they just are shitty people, but thats not the case for everyone living in poverty and being subjected to poorly funded government schools. People shouldn't be expected to have to do impossible things to get their kids in better schools; if the government is going to be in charge of schools, then they should provide the same amount of funding, education, resources, facilities, etc... as every other school. One school shouldn't have 4 computer labs stocked with Apple Computers networked all over the world, while the other school can only do CD-ROM and Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego on the computers that the good schools used 15 years ago. Just because a childs parents cant find work, or fucked up in high school, or is fucking up as an adult, doesn't mean they should be punished by being forced into some substandard educational institiution. Thats where the focus needs to be. not 'why don't you just move to a better school district.'

I'm all for and support the ideas you mentioned about quality of qchooling being equal. No one hould be getting a better education based on location. Some of you are so mad a white guy is saying this you hear only the negative things I say but none of the other things I endorse are even mentioned.

I'm NOT ignorant like some in here want you to believe. I'm very well aware there is systemic hardship in the poor urban areas. Some of it is totally justifiable. No job and every other reason is there. BUT YOU CAN"T TELL ME 100% of the people in bad areas can't move out because of MONEY. Some public housing families have like 4+ people in them. Not ONE is working? Not ONE is planning for a move to better his family?
