Lil' Wayne wasn't no college kid success story, nigga. Wayne had love in the streets, til he started gettin questionable. Suburban/college kids hopped on a bandwagon...

But, I see what you sayin though. People just want shit they can relate to. Every nigga ain't outchea flippin keys, bustin guns, and makin it rain.

Kanye did pop off through the college circuit.... but Wayne had the streets first, then he got popular through the college circuit at least imo...

But I agree that most niggas will proabbly blow off the college circuit from now on....

Guys like Lupe, Drake, J cole(to an extent), krit, even big sean all gaining buzz off that circuit.... Street niggas started bumping big sean after the college kids were doin it haha

But yeah, at least it will point niggas in the right direction..... no need for everyone to pop off that street shit

The last two major movements that happened in hiphop were because of the college kids, and that's Kanye West and Lil Wayne, the streets don't dictate shit no more. These mfs don't buy shit period, these college kids are the ones spreading these artist name word of mouth and buying most of the albums. Why do you think the Lupes, Kanyes, Cudi's,etc can consistently tour or not put out big singles and still maintain.

your both right and wrong. Kid Cudi and Kanye are products of college audiences however lil waynes sucess is more high school age group that is now getting ready to go to college. And most of those people hate kanye now and want him to go back to the "college dropout flow. Lets be honest the production was hot on MBDTF but the nigga was not talking about shit lol.

Most of waynes new audience are both white and black kids (and a few latinos and asians) who first heard waynes late 07 early 08 when he had his mixtapes and C3.Most of theese kids were middle school/high school now early college/high school. But waynes movement were ignorant dick riders from both suburbs and the hood or borderline middle class who loved his "freestyle" type rap. But this movement started as they were High school age not as college kids (the college crowd has moved on to wiz and cole).

The latest movement in rap is actually the dumb ass nigga who cant rap but we like his image movement. This includes young money, flocka, roscoe dash, and gucci (lemonade post jail sentence ). This movement cant even be blamed by rich suburban kids who no nothing about rap. Its dumb ass niggas in the hood and middle class niggas whose parents are moving out the hood but there kids wanna be hood.

In all honesty in a lot of cases the "streets" are also apart of the college scene. Just about all colleges have what we call locals. Alotta ppl at these college parties(the ones off campus especially) are from the local hoods in the area. Even just walking around on campus you'll see alotta ppl who don't even go to the school hanging out or hunting for bitches. The soul of the streets is present in a lot universities and colleges......hell if you're a dope boy you'd be crazy not to have clientele there. Your average college student is supporting the weed man on the outskirts of campus. The streets don't have all the say but they damn sure have a strong influence
