yea snoop was that dude for real it was deep cover then the chronic then his solo. dam shame he down to just spelling his name now. i think it was that murder trial that really changed his music. really stepped away from the gangsta shit and more of the pimp/funny guy shit. he still drops a good track from time to time but his overall albums have died.

i can say for me jay z unplugged got him back on my radar. i really wasn't feeling volume 1 and 2 plus he stole a go go song from some DC cats and did them dirty. he was just out of my ears for a 2nd. Then teh unplugged cd got me back on board then the blueprint gave him a 2nd run for me

On the jay-z shit..vol 1 & 2 were hit and miss in the city(dc metro area) some niggas hated him- "jay z ah bama" then some people liked "hardknock life" cause of the beat..still hated him tho. I think he fell off after bluebrint 2, but he bounced back quick.

i think lloyd banks to a certain extent can be placed in that category as well. he had a huge buzz in 2004 (partly due to 50 cent) and dropped a platinum selling album hunger for more, then his buzz faded as he wasn't on the scene as much, he dropped rotten apple in 2006 and flopped then was in limbo for awhile, however he kept making music and hit the mixtape circuit hard and recreated his buzz thanks to beamer beans and bently and dropped a solid album in 2010.

But he's talking about in general. I mean wasn't it obvious that people stopped feeling Ja Rule after maybe 2004? Wasn't it obvious that people thought Snoop had lost it in 1998? The list goes on.

It's about the general perception.

I know what he's talking about. It's a pointless measuring stick because it's completely subjective. Sales are the only objective benchmark, therefore that's all that matters. It's also the only real way rappers themselves judge falling off.

In the case of Ja Rule you can see how the sales reflected the falling off. He went from multi-plat on Pain is Love to never hitting the same numbers again, all things taken into consideration.
