for a thread that starts with "let's bring back intellectual discussion" there's not much discussion going on, just everyone posting their list.

I'm 39 years old, been listening to Hip Hop all my life. From Newton Centre, MA but I've been in New Jersey for the past 10 years.

Lately I've been listening to alot of Spoonie G. He's an early 80s MC that released music from 1979 up to about 1987. I think he put an album out around 87 or 88 but that's not his best material. His best stuff was a bunch of singles on independant labels. Anyway, I'll list a handful of Spoonie G tracks and ya'll can d/l em if you want.

"Spoonin Rap" -1979

"Love Rap"-1980

"New Rap Language" feat The Treacherous 3 -1980

"Monster Jam" feat The Sequence-1980

"Spoonie's Back" - 1982

"The Big Beat"-1983

"Street Girl"-1984/5

"That's My Style"-1985/6

"Take It Off"-1986

"The Godfather"-1987

Then around 1987 or 88 he released an album but he was kinda old and outdated. Rakim, LL Cool J and KRS One came out with a new style and Spoonie G sounded hella old school. But anyway, the ones in bold are the tracks I really like. Spoonie G is from the original class of MCs. He released a 12" single in 1979, the same year as "Rappers Delight"

So I am a huge MCHG fan. Do you guys feel like this album is trying to let niggas know that they can be some shit and when you succeed and are about business no one cares how hood you were or how hood your associates are as long as you can be cordial and intelligent.

Born in the Bronx. Raised in Eastern PA.

Jay Z

Talib Kweli

Lupe Fiasco

This is not reflective of my Top 5 DoA though, which fluctuates every week. This is just who gets the most spins in my cassette.

In terms of 'local' acts, I rock with these guys in Brooklyn. Not really as local to me persay, so Ill see if I can't find some undiscovered Philadelphia acts worth mentioning.

They've got more lyrical shit on the tapes.
