LiAngelo, LaMelo Ball Sign 1-Year Contracts with Prienu Vytautas

LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball are headed to Europe.

The former Chino Hills High School stars have signed with first division Lithuanian team Prienu Vytautas. The Big Baller Brand Instagram account shared the news:

LaMelo, LiAngelo Ball agree to one-year deals with first-division Lithuanian team

LaMelo and LiAngelo Ball have turned pro, agreeing to one-year contracts with Vytautas Prienai in the first-division Lithuanian league, sources told Yahoo Sports.

LaMelo, 16, and LiAngelo Ball, 19, agreed to deals with Vytautas that will allow the two prospects to start their careers in a competitive professional league with a history of producing NBA players and focus on development. Both will report to the team in early January, sources told Yahoo Sports. LaMelo and LiAngelo — the younger brothers of Los Angeles Lakers starting point guard Lonzo Ball — began the process of exploring international deals last week.

They have now committed to a Lithuanian team that won a championship last season and plays in competitive games in the Baltic and Lithuanian leagues, which includes teams that participate in EuroCup (Lietkabelis) and EuroLeague (Zalgiris). Several notable players have spent time in the Lithuanian league before joining the NBA or other leagues, including Toronto Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas, the No. 5 pick in the 2011 NBA draft; Boston Celtics center Aron Baynes; ex-Houston and New Orleans forward Donatas Motiejunas; former New York Knicks forward Mindaugas Kuzminskas; and Isaiah Hartenstein, who was a second-round pick to Houston in the 2017 draft.

Over the past week, Harrison Gaines, the representative for LaMelo and LiAngelo, fielded multiple offers and worked to finalize the finer details of a unique contract situation. For LaMelo and LiAngelo, the opportunity to play meaningful minutes in each potential level of play for Vytautas was as important as the flexibility of their one-year agreements.

“We engaged in serious talks with several teams, and Vytautas made the most sense as LaMelo and LiAngelo work to develop as professionals and set a foundation for their careers,” Gaines said. “It was critical to find a situation in a competitive league that works with both of their short- and long-term goals.”

LaMelo left Chino Hills High in California before his junior season this year to be home-schooled and is considered a legitimate pro prospect. The move to turn pro overseas is unprecedented for the consensus top-10 player in the class of 2019, who is skipping two years of high school and his commitment at UCLA. Luka Doncic — the potential No. 1 pick in the 2018 NBA draft — turned pro in Europe early in his basketball life and has set a recent standard of development and ability to succeed against older competition in tougher leagues.

“Our club is excited for the arrival of LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball,” Vytautas sports director Vilius Vaitkevicius said. “We are committed to their long-term success and development as professional basketball players.”

Former Gonzaga standout Kevin Pangos and two-year NBA veteran Brandon Davies currently play for the Lithuanian league’s top team, Zalgiris.

LiAngelo parted ways with UCLA last week to begin focusing on his training for professional basketball. LiAngelo and UCLA teammates Cody Riley and Jordan Hill were involved in a shoplifting incident in China in November and received indefinite suspensions.

LaMelo, a gifted 6-foot-5 point guard, and LiAngelo, a 6-foot-5 scorer, starred at Chino Hills High, where LaMelo had a 92-point performance in February and LiAngelo had a 72-point game last December. Both joined Lonzo to lead Chino Hills to a state championship in 2016.

I like the route pops is taking. Basketball will be similar to soccer in 10-20 years. These young boys need to know there are global opportunities out here. If, you can carve out a decent living playing the sport you love while seeing the world go for it!! We need to be going against the grain..

It don't make sense to keep his kids in he's already super rich. They can play overseas and make money, expand their brand and generate interest for when they come back to America with real credentials under them.

My man. You get it.

I wish the Ball family all the luck in the world, but I can't believe for the life of me that Lavar thinks they are trying to control him, he just seems like a narcissistic asshole that's always talking shit. I mean the outlandish shit he says is like that nigga that's always around running his mouth and won't STFU. No, his sons are not that good, it's a ton of cats way better but he just finessed himself into the spotlight, that's it that's all. He selling shitty shoes and finessed that as well, good for him.

i been saying the same shit...but all niggas see is a black man buckin a system.

thats who they want to root for.

in the video...charlmenge said he didnt get his flipflops yet.

smdh

with the way he went about his shoes to maximize his profit is not good.

his sons cant speak for themselves....look at how gelo keeps looking to his dad to help him speak.

the lil nigga dont even look like he wants to be there.

just saying..i saw alot in that interview...

but again...what do it know

To be fair. Gelo and Melo are only 16 and 18(?) I think. They're pretty young

So I don't expect them to be these charismatic articulate speaking individuals.

I just hope they don't get injured like D Rose and start contemplating suicide and sh*t.

What struck me in the interview is how he talked about getting his kids set-up first before he

start bringing anyone else into the tint. On the surface, thats pretty noble.

only time will tell what his true intentions are.

Ok so explain to me why his kids should play in college when they don't get paid.

College athletes should be getting paid. So what's wrong with him talking another route? Damn right he should buck the system.

Shannon Sharpe got his shoes so Charlamane will get his flops.

lets not act like this was his plan.

he was forced into making this decision.

he said his kids would be 1 and done....so he had plans for them to attend college. all that other stuff is fluff..making it seem like he had a plan.

if this was his plan....why send gelo to ucla?

as for what you saying...the school does have a prestige factor....kinda like duke...people know when you come from these certain school..you have fundamentals.

an i agree college players should get money...but it didnt matter to him if gelo didnt get caught stealing.now would it?

would we be having this talk if gelo didnt steal?

this nigga be reaching for any straw and make it seem like it was part of the plan.

talking that 80-20 shit. and look...he had to scramble to get them anywhere.

this kids are being robbed of childhood to live a dream the dad has.

an to be fair...hes pushing them too fast.

hes moving them at the speed of adulthood and at what point will they be able to make decisions?

LiAngelo Ball says he thanked Donald Trump only because UCLA made him do it
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/liangelo-ball-says-thanked-donald-trump-ucla-made-213342393.html

i dont think he should have said this.

we need to get to a point where if shit aint true....keep it moving. if it is..keep it moving.

point is he was there and stole some shit. keep ya mouth shut. he is going to another country to play now...alot of people dont understand that being american means nothing to other countries. God forbid he gets into something or is falsely accused. he threw the other kids under the bus. Man shut up.

Seems like they just want to shit on anyone and burn any bridge they have.

Like i said earlier in this thread....just be thankful you aint in jail. point blank period.
