Ladies and Gentlemen,we are in another Golden Era

During the Golden Era of hip-hop the mainstream was diverse. Can't really say that now. Yeah, the genre is diverse to many of us because we don't mind and we know how to look for music that appeals to us.

But I'd say more than 90% of the rap I listen to on my phone/ipod will never be played on the radio. That wasn't the case during the Golden Era. Most of the stuff on the radio many of us owned on tapes/cds.

And that's what differentiates the Golden Era from any other time period in rap. It was the closest we'll ever get to a proper balance with the mainstream portion of the genre.

This sums up why this isn't a golden era.

I wouldn't go so far as to call this another Golden Era...but the quality of Hip Hop music has gotten better with many different styles....I'm not digging all of these new cats but it's refreshing to see cats making Hip Hop music..

Agreed. Plus, if you could never use the word "golden", then you'd probably agree that it's far better than what mainstream R&B/Soul has become now.

Thanx to T/S for the Hakeem song. Never heard about the guy before, but now I wanna check out more of his music.

this era has decent singles with lackluster albums. thats the difference from this era and the golden era. also there were timeless beats in the golden era and music wasn't rushed out the way it is now.

I think we're heading in that direction. Old heads gonna hate based off generational bias alone, they'd never admit to another golden era.

Too many questionable albums coming out for this to be a Golden age. The top albums (mainstream and underground) in 2014 are not seeing the albums that came out in the mid 80s - mid 90s. To be fair though, the Golden era had a bit of rust on it, cuz they were relying heavy on classic samples.
