Sometimes being lyrical is overated. Whilst important it aint everythn. Pac wuznt lyrical but no one wil ever touch him. Same to Krs. Why would i listen to the so called lyrical Emcees like Eminem,Jay,Big who sound repetitive and hav a weak subject matter instead of Bumpin to Nas,Krs,Pac,Wu-Tang who can make me think and at the same time be entertained... Subject matter/Musical Content is very important. Thats why Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Lennon are GOATs in they respective genres. Only in hiphop where emcees who glorify drugs, Promote misogyny & homo rap and disrespect the culture are crowned GOAT.

Lyricism >>>> Subject matter

Well said. Plus he freestyled a lot of his stuff and still sounded like dudes who write, that takes a lot of talent. Lets not even get into all the flows he brought into the game, he pushed the envelope to where dudes rhymed all crazy by the early 90's. that reggae inspired flow stopped people from flowing stiff, he dont get enough cerdit for that either.

Thats my thing. Rakim was lyrically spittin knowledge. I like that, I'd rather listen to niggas like Common, Talib Kweli, Nas, Dead Prez, Black Thought, who can lyrically teach instead of just teach

So, would you rather bump Jay/ Big instead of Krs/ Pac?? Being lyrical and havin a deep content is a gift/blessing. Very few possess both except Nas,Ra,Talib,Black Thought,Common,Ghost and Gza

Yes, I would rather listen to Big/Jay instead of KRS/Pac, because the things Big or Jay lyrically don't cover there is someone who lyrcially can as those I listed

dude definately arrogant, but arrogance is part of hip-hop and MC'n. if a rapper don't think of himself as dope, he don't belong on the Mic. But some people diss him because they don't think KRS don't give props to other MCs but he does. peep the interview post in this thread. He don't mind giving props to other artist that are putting in work. He aint as stuck on himself as people make it out to be. I met dude before too and the one thing that stood out to me was that he actually comes off as a humble dude. Kinda surprised me.

I see wat your saying I actually like KRS but he ALWAYS has to give his opinion of who, and wat is hip hop that's kinda annoying to me but he's a legend

Quote from BIG "I used to like KRS one until he got on that s**t....I am hip hop GTFOH" lol. But he dug him.....

I'm pretty sure all those MCs you mentioned would cite KRS as an influence on them, I know that dont mean you gotta dig him though but that why his fans give him so much credit.

Personally I dont think BIG or Jay were that deep, but that might be what appeals to you, light teaching mixed with skill. If you like to really be made to think, KRS Chuck Pac (when he wasnt being bipolar lol) and Cube were among the best at that. Even Scarface.

Nas Common Talib Thought some of the others are great rappers but none of them go as deep as KRS can.

Rakim is like a dude who spits one way but its marvelous. KRS way more versatile and just as effective. Can you see Rakim in a battle destroying dudes off the head? I cant and im a Ra fan, he's the god, but KRS just deeper to me

Great thread Mumo.

The Blastmaster is a legend and a top ten emcee.

His contributions to HipHop are unmatched by any other rapper, its good that we have somebody who is totally dedicated to the culture and not just the almighty dollar.

@ Old fart. Thats the thing. I wonder why Krs has to give props to other emcees who are inferior to him. Krs is Number 1...
