Kendrick Lamar - "To Pimp a Butterfly"

Kendrick and J-Cole have elements of Nas, which I can relate to. Substance, lyricism, reality, street knowledge, introspective, ghetto commentary.

That storytelling joint is typical Nas. The introspective, good kid trapped in ghetto environment reporting what he sees again

is typical Nas/Pac. Whereas Nas seems more indecisive in his earlier years ala J-cole, Kendrick seems more assured like Pac. But the contradictions are evident in all their music.

I liked To Pimp a Butterfly better than GKMC for some reason. 8.5 type album and still growing on me. It seems like a much more cohesive, more substance album and more musical. It's like his 'Nigger, Yeezus' album. The How much a dollar cost, alright are my favourite tracks

I met a little boy that resembled my features

Nappy afro, gap in his smile

Hand me down sneakers bounced through the crowd

Runnin' home and the man and woman that crossed him

Sun beamin' on his beady beads exhausted

Tossin' footballs with his ashy black ankles

Breakin' new laws mama passed on home trainin'

He looked at me and said Kendrick you do know my language

You just forgot because of what public schools had painted

Oh I forgot don't kill my vibe, that's right you're famous

Was drivin and saw a panhandler askin for money, which i see everyday bein in dc o im kinda numb to it,and that song made me dig in my pckets. That song is serious

The lil Isley part is too much

I wash my hands, I said my grace, what more do you want from me?

Its one of those songs i wont play everytime. Not always ready for it

This and Lupe albums are light years from just about everything else that drop in the last 2 years.

Cadillactica>>>

Not lyrically...and they are neck in neck production wise..cadillactica got more bangers

Krit on Cadillactica was at least as good lyrically as this album.

As a matter of fact, I could tell what Krit was trying to convey quicker- which is what lyricism is about.

painting pictures with words.

U say it like hhid was bad

HHID was good, but this album was supposed to sell way more. Agreed?

Well how much did hhid do? I still think kendrick woulda sold atleast 500 if it werent for the shitty release. They were hiding the albums.

Bruh the more you have to think about it the more lyrical it is though. If you can't go back on the second or third listen and catch something new it wasn't that lyrical.
