If you listen to "For Free?" & "For Sale?" you pretty much get what the internal struggle of the album is all about ... basically as a artist as a man in this country you work hard to cultivate and craft your art .. your skill ... whatever that may be .. so you take pride in it .. and obviously place value on it ..and since you don't wont to feel exploited .. you will go out of your way to make sure your not used "for free" in a literal sense ..

HOWEVER ... this society has its way of getting you by hook or by crook .. so when you go into "For Sale" its another internal struggle that an artist ..a man .. has to deal with ... you have to ask yourself .. well if your not for free .. then you must be "for sell" ... correct?? it has to be one way or another ... but the question is ...is there really a difference?? is the choice ultimately not just a double edge sword?? sure you get the money the fame the popularity .. all of these trinkets that the character "Lucy/Lucifer" has to offer ... but now your someones property .. your under someones control because your indebted to their cash flow for support ... you owe them your time your energy your life in a way ... and while most people will sign up for that all day .. there's real cost that come with that .. the detachment from the place & people that made you ...you... not being their for your sister who gets pregnant as a teenager when your preaching to crowds about self awareness ..having friends get killed and you cant even visit them in the hospital because of "obligations"

This album is essentially Kendrick explaining the complexities of what happens when you pluck a young black man out of an ostracized cast way land ..give him fame gratification and riches and tell him to adjust to this new world on the fly .. he is trying to deal with balance of "normalcy" especially coming from such humble beginnings ... cleverly he correlates his tale with that of another "rose from concrete" so to speak in Pac.. pretty much Pac is his guidance ..and he's telling the story of the album to him in bits and pieces stopping where every he see's a simularity with a situation Pac also went thru.. leading up to the end where he finally gets to talk to his guru ..but obviously a person can only lead/teach you so far before its time to tackle life on your own ..and that's where the album ends

Its a rehash of the same ol, internal struggle, saint vs sinner schtick. the bitches are simultaneously the evils that tempt him and the object of his desire. he vacilates between a personal narrative and an overall critique on the collective black psyche. i "get it" i just dont dig the execution. just not as "deep" as it tries to be passed off as. and again...the whole "lucy/lucifer" metaphor is sooooo half-cocked as he is promoting the luciferean mindstate subtly but its hard to catch because hes throwing race out there...because race is a "hot" topic now so he basically HAD to go there. to pimp a butterfly you gotta catch it in the cocoon..while its sleep ...during the tender stages of its development. its some elementary shit yo... its made to seem deeper than it is

Haven't really given it the attention it deserves yet - just one play from front to back - but I'm not really feeling it like that. Couple standout tracks. That's about it. Definitely not feeling most of the production. Admittedly though, you can't really digest an album until you sit with it for a while.

Niggas really get in they feelings when you don't turn into Rosenberg every time you hear kdot rap... The album is good be to be honest it seems better then what it is only becuz it's different... Very good album but not album of the year and if I gotta play it for 6 months to feel its greatness then all I did was make myself like it more then what I really do

CAnt say if that strue or not bc its too early, but tHe premise is right. Its gonna take a month or so and a few listens AND a set it down and pick it back up before you really judge this album. Right now the adrenaline is too high and there's no way this album could have been anything but 'omg omg omg!'

He a youngin so like this is his Blueprint, his 1st listen of Illmatic, etc. The young nggas NEED that moment lol Older cats know what it felt like to first listen to all time great albums as an adult/high teens. Young nggas really havent, so 'Tetsuo & Youth' or 'Cadillactica' will just have to be classic to them. They force it.

Meanwhile an older ngga like me is just confused. Like i just listened to The Fix. The goalposts arent supposed to change are they? So if an album had to be that good to be classic, shouldnt it have to be that good to be classic now? Not just beats, but lyrics.

Imo If we go 10 years without a classic alum, then thats just what happen. We dont make shyt that isnt classic, classic, just bc its the best we got.

Production is A1, Alright is a banger

Momma, Complexion, Hood Politics, and Alright are my favorites

the outro is very creative

I still prefer GKMC but i haven't fully ingested this album yet.
