Jon Connor basically announced signing to Dr. Dre's Aftermath in his cypha.

6:24 PM - 28 Sep 2013

What does signing to Aftermath in 2013 mean though?

Kendrick is technically on Aftermath but his brand was already built by TDE & himself for years. Same thing with 50 & Eminem. Dre had a hand in the development of Eminem as far as song-writing but other than that - nope. Most of Eminem & Kendrick's material was already recorded years prior.

Eminem had dropped an EP before Dre, had deals on the table from Rawkus, Duck Down etc. and did the underground thing. Kendrick been around since 2005-2006 and so has TDE. We all know about 50. Game was semi around but he had just started rapping.

Signing to Interscope is mostly about branding on a global scale. By associating yourself, your movement and product with Interscope and their distrubution now you're able to request more money, that's it.

So the only thing signing with Interscope/Dre does is that it appeals to the general consumers/average listeners who really ain't up on hip-hop like we are, as we can see with alot of these new Kendrick "fans". Interscope aint a hip-hop label like that. Never been.

was about to argue....but when you think about it...Interscope is just a glorifed distribution company

I feel like it's a little more than branding. Dre did a lot for all of those artists musically. Let's not underestimate the value of Dre's production team.

WRONG! I rock with all kind of new shit.. did you see me big up Ab-Soul earlier for instance? Or were you blinded by your rabid fandom? I fucks with Pro-Era, Lupe, Skyzoo and whoever songs I come across that I like. That simple. I liked Section 80 for the most part. Is that some old man shit? I fuck with Big KRIT and Cole ( when theyre on that is...).... not to mention all the young local underground artists in various cities I frequent. Fuck outta here, B.

Just cause you pigeonhole yourself with celebrity worship dont mean you can pigeonhole me.

I like good music. Chronology is irrelevant to good music. I find Kendricks shit to be so-so music. The whole shit with him is contrived.

While you talking that shit mufuckas older than me run the industry.

And b-boying is some prehistoric played out shit to lampoon? Fuck outta here, B. You lame as fuck

Fuck outta here, B. Just because the mainstream media wants to make this nigga the face of the New School does not equate age-ism against ALL young rappers.

Just plained warped thinking.

Who in this entire thread or board for that matter stated they dislike young rappers?

Where?

This nigga is not the official rep for all young rappers.

Insecure ass niggas putting your self-worth into celebrities and what other people think of them positive or negative. LMBAO

There's a clear age gap between the Kendrick supporters and dudes knocking him in this thread. I'd be willing to bet all the dudes knocking him are 30+. Talk about the youth not understanding history, while they rewrite history in they nostalgia and hold the current artists to different standards.

I'm not knocking Kendrick at all. I've been supporting dude from the beginning...

But I see where @judahxulu is coming from with his synopsis where Interscope is WWE'ing this "Control" scenario with Kendrick.

Of course they're trying to milk the control scenario who with sense wouldn't? He called everybody out to step they game up, named his main competition and that's it. Who actually expected dude to respond to all these cats lol. Seriously? People trying to interpret the verse literally like he really wants to end J. Cole career, nothing was passive aggressive about the verse, it was never as aggressive as people tried to make it, bold, but not all that aggressive. These dudes supposed to be hip hop heads, but can't understand the use of hyperbole in a track. C'mon son.

I tried to find it but keep seeing this
