We're steady seeking respect/validation from a people who may never give it to us. Respect for self equates to living for ourselves and creating our own instead of trying to navigate their system.

All in all I believe people are tying his comments to what happened to Michael Brown but I feel he was speaking in regards to the fallout from the Michael Brown incident.
