Anyone who thinks DAMN is better than TPAB lets me know they both don't really listen to the lyrics and they have a preference for production that lacks musicianship.

I disagree. Ive said before i respect tpab for what it is but its a much heavier album all the way thru n im not saying that in a bad way...but Damn is a lot more easier to listen to regardless of your mood and u still get good production, lyrics and flows. It also has a lot more bang to it.

So you "prefer" it more,
but better is a definite no. DAMN has a grip of songs that serve no real purpose. TPAB front to back, each verse/song has a defined purpose. DAMN's lyrics are weak in comparison.

Yes, just as u "prefer" tpab more.

Its all subjective.

This album is a major improvement from how to pimp a butterfly.

Agree. But neither is a classic nor are they touching GKMC.

This is a GOOD album. But the fact that people are seriously considering K-Dot Top 5 is ridiculous at this point in time.

TPAB is a classic u nimrod

I don't know a soul in real life that has bumped that album all the way through since June 2015. People still bumping GKMC; even more now that DAMN. is out and nostalgia is taking effect.

TPAB shits on GKMC. Fuck outta here dude

The FOH backfired like a muhfucka on this post :joy:

People only use the word subjective when it benefits them. They'll call another nigga's opinions trash but when a form of art is "technically" better than what they're talking about in every aspect, they turn around and say "it's subjective".

Nah im not makin a case for somethin like lil yachty vs tpab....we're talking about the same artist here, one album after another.

Clearly kendrick hasnt had a drop in quality as far as his artistry, no one is saying hes falling off or even claim hes selling out with this more 'commercial' album....its just simply a matter of u like tpab more.

Therefore using 'subjective' here isnt a cop out.

Theres more to Damn than production, lyrics, flow, etc. Theres a concept to it as well. Its a well packaged project that flows from beginning to end all connected.

He didnt just put some bullshit out. Its just not as attuned to your taste as tpab. Tho fans of tpab enjoy damn as well.

Its all subjective.

I agree DAMN is good album (gave it a 7). But I need to hear these good lyrics outside of DNA, Feel, Fear, and Duckworth. I was very disappointed lyrically and it's my main issue with this album. He was on cruise control (for his standards) for most of the album.

Not every song needs a purpose...sometimes people just want to hear good music. TPBA was a concept album. Meaning every song SHOULDA had a purpose. I liked TPAB. But DAMN reminds me of GKMC bc I find myself liking it more with each listen.

TPAB aint for everybody #Facts. Kendrick's best work imo...But this album Damn mixes GKMC and TPAB nicely together with a sprinkle of some new flavor and heres the product.

just because it "bangs in the whip"/ has more replay album doesn't make it a better album though

No but it factors in. Same way lyrics do.

This is rap "music" we are discussing.

Not Def Poetry Jam

Here is one small the thing you haven't considered to think.. just a small thing... totally inconsequential

RAP is

Rhythm

and

Poetry

I think someone in this thread said this already but sounds like Kdot or a producer discovered Pink Floyd while making this album. If you fuck with Pink Floyd at all you can hear it a couple times

I agree but my point was that he was able to successfully mix the candy with the medicine as far as the content of the album where tpab was straight medicine. So Damn is kind of like the best of both worlds....a bit of consciousness with that "bang in the whip".

So in essence hes able to attract both types of listeners and draw a wider audience without reducing quality.

TPAB is mood music. I don't see the point in comparing.

GKMC is a concept album. Again a stand alone project.

This album, although it's a concept album, it's his first album of where he has just dropped material that you don't have to either be in the mood for or listen start to finish to enjoy.

TPAB is more of political album to me and for some that's great...but I wouldn't bang that album as much as the other 2.

As much as I love TDSOTM and The Wall I can see why they would get credit for influence. They weren't the first to switch music mid song or create album long narrative concepts

Did the TPAB thread surpass this one though in length? I think it did...

The arguments are like Kanye's first 3 albums (CD, LR and Graduation)... people have their preferences but I still think LR is his best: the same way I feel for TPAB
