"Takeover" was mostly opinion but some fans felt the same way,, "1 album every 10 year average", "You using your voice wrong", Jay was reaching but he did tap into a feeling some fans had that NaS fell off after "ILLmatic". "Ether" was just disrespectful on purpost, NaS used Big and Pac's Legacy against Jay, clowned him called him everything in the book as if he was holding it in so long. "Ether" was personal, NaS let Jay know bascially he could of went in on Him a long time ago but was dealing with personal issues. The beef is so deep, I'm glad Wiki actually broke it down pretty well. "Takeover" and "Ether" are Classic records even great Disses. But Jay hurt Mobb Deep more than NaS cause NaS came back with an amazing album in "STILLmatic", that's what helps in a battle, if you drop a hard diss, you need to drop a hard album. As for the beats debate, of course KanYe is more talented than Ron Brownz but the "Ether" beat did go extremely hard, it was venmous. Again, "Takeover" had the Jim Morrison sample which made it ILL.

I like both records for different reasons but "Ether" was more clever and the fact the title of the song as actually become a slang in Hip Hop shows you how powerful it became. Hip Hop Fan worldwide will never forget Esco liting that bomb in December. Jay recovered just fine, NaS piereced his armor and he bleed and they healed and Dropped a Classic Collabo: As for the Opinions of Kiss and Lamer, Kiss is obviously going to go with "Ether" cause he secretly always felt he was nicer than Jay. Plus NaS shouted out Jay's problems with Kiss it was like NaS agreeing with Kiss about Jay. What made "Ether" great is what made "Hit em Up" great, they aired out their opponents on a personal level. Which Made for more scientifitic approach. Biggie and Jay were more cerebal and mental with their disses. NaS and Pac before him went all out. Great Battle. NaS won but Jay moved on and Survived. But this song was a Classic:

Truth be told takeover is not even in the top 5 diss songs of all times shit maybe not in the 10 if you look at all the powerfulls diss songs Like No Vaseline, Ether, Hitem Up, Dre Day, Bitch In Yoo, Dollar and Sense, RealMuthaphucking G's, Ripper is Back, The Bridge is Over, 2nd Round KO, 300 bars etc it just does not measure up shit the top 3 Ether, No Vaseline and Hitem Up are still catch phrases to this day in regards to dissing or being dissed...

i like dre a lot but as a diss dre day was whack as fuck the beat made up for the shit lyrics.

If the facts is what makes the shit better then that means the strongest thing Jay said was the seachlight publishing thing. All his other shit was subjective disses. Jay's physical apearance lines his age in karate class, and Jay biting lines were personals that smashed the search line.

Yea but Jay recycled the Publishing Diss from Biggie, Big already got NaS on that with "Kick in the Door". Jay admited sampling NaS voice an then made this lazy excuse that NaS was using his own words wrong when the song in question was "The World Is Yours" produced by Pete Rock which is a legendary underground hip hop record. "Dead Presidents' is a Classic also so Jay used the sampled well but the fact is he used NaS voice, did it again on Vol 1 with "Rap game, Crack Game". I'm not saying NaS was all fact, of course he was going with entertainment value with the "Chased through the building" line and all the "Gay" Jokes against Jay. But he did go on and made some great points about Jay's career. It was like a critical anaylses of Jay's history in the game. "Ether" was better but that doesn't mean "Takeover" wasn't a Classic record cause it was.

till this day i don't know why people say take over is top 5 that diss fucking sucked for real the only positive thing it had going was the beat i'd be a damn liar if i said that beat wasn't knocking, "daddy busy go play" that was mad weak and plus jay sounded all awkward through out the song, also if you don't think ether was better than take over your a certified jigga warrior. Ether shitted all over take over i don't care what anybody else says and what facts was jay saying in that song you stans keep saying that.

I think the two things that Nas did that tipped the scale in his favor were:

1) He made Jay Z seem like he was a stan (Jay sampled Nas twice and mentioned his name and/or albums on record). There's also the story of Jay wanting Nas on a song. Not only did he make it seem like Jay was a Nas stan, but a Jaz-O stan as well by pointing out the similarities between Jaz-O and Jay Z's stage names and how far of a stretch Jay Z is from Shawn Carter. There's also Jay Z spittin' Biggie's lines.

2) The "Queens niggas run you niggas ask Russel Simmons" line. Def Jam is the house that Russel built which the ROC was an imprint under. That kind of smashed the whole idea of a "takeover". Then there's Nas basically saying he's sonning them.

Till this day I'm fascinated that people thought that "you made it a hot line . . I made it" holds any weight

I still have faith in the IC. Man thank you. What you just mentioned is so far overlooked. Once I heard Jay say that line, I know he was playing. "You made it a hot line". People actually agree with that? "The World is Yours" is a Nas jewel. Lyrics on point, production by (Pete Rock) on point, the overall song is crazy. For people to agree with that nonsense baffles me too...

I sip the Dom P, watchin Gandhi til I'm charged
Writin in my book of rhymes, all the words pass the margin .... C'mon man Nas was beasting on that song....

Botom line on this battle, which will be debated senselessly for the next 50 pages, is this:

1)Ether is OBVIOUSLY better, especially considering Nas used inside facts from Jaz O, and attacked it on some 'true feelins' shyt

2) Takeover is ACTUALLLLY a better diss to Mobb Deep than it is to Nas...the ONE verse goin at Nas was more so shocking b/c he was actually goin at him, but the last verse goin at Mobb Deep LITERALLY killed their career...

Fact.

As a fan of the 2nd GOAT Group (Mobb Deep), its safe to say Takeover was the equivalent to Ether to Mobb Deep.

Jay ended their career and i'm not even sure if the Mobb had a creditable come back to takeover
