Oversaturation is a myth. If you releasing good music that doesn't sound formulaic no one is going to complain.

co sign with ptown and backinwhite. they pretty much summed up the just of it. cole aint doing nothing but waisting time testin the waters. this aint 1990's. A/R and artist development died at the beginning of last decade. why you think they cut all that fat out of the big labels and pretty much killed off or absorbed all the so called indie labels. we live in a world where rebbeca black got 45 million views on youtube in less than 2 weeks and she never rode a camel before. hip hop is evolving from that cradled by the label stage and back to shameless self promotion like the niggas did in the 70s and early 80s. if you got a highspeed connection and the willpower to promote yourself you already have a leg up over these so called "chosen mc's" who think the stars gonna align for them by waiting on the label to do something. it aint all cole fault though because Jay Z is the CEO/labelhead whatever you wanna call him. its ultimately his job to market this artist he has under his label. both of them niggas living in la la land thinking these ADHD millenium meth/xpill babies gonna wait for them.

but that's the thing.....what y'all dont seem to be understanding is that J. Cole's fanbase isn't like that. It's not fickle like the Wayne, Drake or Nicki type of fanbase. It's more like the Common, Talib, Mos type of fanbase. His fans ain't going nowhere soon

if cole drops the same type of songs every week then it will become "formulaic"

you did make some good points but that method of a slow build will help cole in the longrun.

well if you eat the same food everyday it becomes stale, but if you eat that food once every 2 months then it wont get stale. same with music, if an artist drops his music every week it will seem stale.

Jay z is to blame for his dire handling of Coles career

the only problem is.....there is no problem with his career

people are complaining because they want his album, thats a good thing.

he has no career
he's a opening act

Can ya'll let the man take his time and make the album everyone wants him to make, or would yall rather dude put out some half assed album like Drake and Wiz?

I have no doubt dude can make a classic if he is saving the best songs from The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights. If people haven't noticed by now, Roc Nation is going back to the traditional music business model (Artist Development), of where you build an artist fanbase and find the right singles. I have no doubt that J Cole will have more longevity than most these dudes who have these big singles and then their albums don't sell shit (Gucci, Wacka, etc).

Is it about the art or is it about all that other nonsense (swag, sales, etc). Let the man make his album, then judge him. As for the other shit, i genuinely feel 90 percent of his haters are residual Jay-z haters, niggas who don't get his lyrics, and niggers who like mindless music (club and radio music).

Makes you wonder what would happen if Nas and Pac came out on the scene today?

no, nigga

he is doing what you call "building a fan base"

cole actually has real fans and not these trend hoppers who will abandon him once he doesn't live up to their expectations

he is also going thru what we industry know it alls like to call "artist development"

so many of these new artists get a hit song and get thrown out there without any knowledge of the game or how to recreate that hit

and they become 1 hit wonders

cole will go at least gold in this climate when his album finally does drop and i have no doubt that it will be a classic

you, sir, are ignorant and deserve to be pummeled thusly

exactly, I can see cole going the lupe route because hes that damn talented. Lupe has a die hard fan base because they know he produces quality shit(I know lasers is wack, I know!) and I think cole can be the rare rapper that fits into that mold
