i'm not trying to avoid nothing
yall heaping all these accolades and shit on the nigga and he ain't did shit
now he a fuckin influential character in the world cuz you got kids who mama let them watch b.e.t.?
how many of them kids know the words to pretty boy swag?
more than 4
you know why?
cuz they hear that shit
j.cole ain't gettin heard like that, b
let the nigga drop a single that actually gets played
let the nigga drop a album
before yall get to saying he's influencing anybody or changing niggas' game plans

nope, no album.
nope, Who Dat sure didn't get much play. it was a pretty bad choice of single, imo
of what i got from the videoblog, i don't think anyone is saying that J. Cole will save all the little negro boys and girls of the world

however, the potential for influence is there strictly off the strength that he's a rapper. if even one kid tries to use his "do college 'til I blow" method, the t/s proves her point. if one kid who wants to rap (and doesn't have an offer already like Will Smith or Big Sean) realizes that going to college doesn't mean admitting defeat on your primary career choice, t/s is right.

oh so we arguing potential now?
rick ross had a football scholarship
kanye has an entire album series based on his college experiences
plies went to college
hell
even gucci mane had a scholarship to go to college
their potential to influence the kids to go to college (seeing as how their actually somewhat successful)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>j.cole's

before i even get back into our debate...

@BCotton - wtf?

ok.

Kanye made me laugh with that "you got the drop out keeping kids in the school" line

anytime a rapper gets on, copycats try to use the same method.
myspace promotion
youtube videos
paying DJs
etc.

the rappers you mentioned above, aside from Kanye, do not really publicize the fact that they went to college.
Cole talks about it in his music and it's one of the things that comes up in a lot of his interviews.
someone, somewhere is going to try to "use college" to get and accidentally get an education.

again, he doesn't have to be the world's biggest rapper to have already influenced someone in his city/state.

FALSE. i bet u if every rapper in the 90s n 80s was talkin bout goin to college it wouldve led many black youth to doin the same. rappers are teachers, idk why ppl havent realized this yet, u go to highschools what do u see? kids wearin hip hop apparel, how do they talk? they say what they hear rappers sayin. dont knock the influence that rappers have on the community becuz it plays a HUGE part its deeper then rap man, theres a reason why the mainstream promoted gangsta rap, they made it seem cool n everybody wanted to be like 50 cent when they was in they teens.

white people stay winnin, its pretty disgusting once u think about it

I agree that music or just mentoring inspires the youth but there are other things we as collective groups locally have to do to better the situation for the youth.

you think he's influential until he blows and starts to dumb his shit down, i mean, look who his boss is and that will tell it all.

Pretty sure Lloyd Banks has an English Literature degree... not to mention loads of rappers went to college, there's been threads on this in the past. I think Rah Digga has one too. Loads went but drop out to pursue music. I think Common and Talib Kweli are in this category along with the obvious one - Kanye.

That said, that vlog could have been shorter...
