Well, in many instances women are 'forced' to open a child support case against the father of their children to receive assistance from the state.
But we all know that the CS system is "not" the best way to handle most situations. Especially if you have a father/mother willing to do what they can.
In these instances, we try to assist in the communication between mother and father. Perhaps even establish a financial agreement that would allow for the custodial parent to receive the extra funds needed until they are on their feet. Then at which time we would scale the amount back to something more comfortable for both parties involved.
We hunt down financial assistant programs that do not 'require' the individuals to open a CS case. There are plenty of them out there, you just have to do a little digging.
Anything to make the CS system the last resort if an option at all.
