hip hop is definitely all time low..without a doubt..i don't think it's ever going get to that golden age of the late 80's and 90's to mid 90's era...even early 2000s was hot...still remember that jay-z and nas beef....loved it

Said it before and say it again, mixtapes are the worst fucking thing to happen to hiphop. The music has no value anymore, especially when mixtapes are better than albums. Albums use to be an event (still is for some rappers ie..Em, Jay, Ye, Nas, Outkast, etc), now no one gives two fucking shits. These rappers have oversaturated the game so much with free shit, they don't realize they shorted the shelf life of their music. You have to hold on to some mystique in hiphop imo.

Without Mixtapes who will be rapping in 2012?

There will be no Meek Mill, J Cole, Drake, Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar, Wale, Big Sean, Big Krit, Lil Wayne as we know him, 50 Cent etc

Mixtapes helped but TOO Many mixtapes hurt... Artist put out 1 strong tape and see where it goes from there the only dude to be signed without a Mixtape was ASAP Rocky that i can remember.

Mixtape is cool if you're a new/unestablished rapper but there is no reason why a establish mc should be putting out mixtapes. Mixtapes are for insecure rappers who don't feel like they can hold on to their fanbase when in between albums, Ye/Jay/Em don't need that shit.

I Agree once your on mixtapes shouldnt be needed... Unless your Label isnt really letting you do what u want to do musically. Like Lupe needed to drop that Mixtape before Lasers B.o.B shoulda dropped a mixtape after his whole White Wash. Certain artist should do them some shouldnt. and if u came from the Mixtape Era then it kinda forces ya hand alot of times.

No, it is not at a all time low. On the other hand, Krit, Cole, Lamar, or none of this new breed that you people blew way out of proportion are going to save, redirect, or enhance the game any.

Rap is a young mans game and these days the youth just arent in touch with anything... Thats why, no substance no good music. Thats the only set back to rap, all image no instrument.

2Chainz 37. Rap is a whose next type game. Always searching and most of the time finding stuff you don't like at the end of the search.

HipHop is so diverse and so worldly that you can find some Rap that perfectly suits your mood and setting so I can't see anybody complaning about anything except the imbalance of the mainstream.

completely agree ...shit theres damn near a flavor of hiphop for everyone out there ...so i cant see what the complaint is on that level ...people need to just listen to different artist check for different cats and they'll be ok .....but the mainstream imbalance is terrible tho

chicken or the egg argument .....maybe if rappers didn't make such shitty albums ..people would car more?

Shit's weak right now...Everybody Gucci & LV'd out, everybody selling bricks, everybody fuck the baddest bitches, everybody smoke the best weed etc...It's like, all these niggas are the same...There's no difference in the crews and the roster's of these "teams" are weak outside of 2/3 niggas.

who the fuck are you listening too?? this is what i dont get with this argument .... i mean if you go to listen to a young jeezy record ..should you really be disappointed to hear him talk about dope? shit thats what he does ... if i turn on a football game im going to be expecting football .. not table tennis .... you feel me ... switch up the people you fuck with

the longer a genre is around, the easier it is for people to fuck it up. major labels are more willing to sign anyone who can make a buck. some guys are the rap equivalent of britney spears.

but there's ALWAYS sick shit coming out. every year. always will be.

After the 90's and early 2000's the only place to go was down.

But I think a bigger issue is people's inability to accept what the mainstream has become. Me personally I feel if Krit has released two fire mixtapes and one lackluster album he's 2/3 in my book. Remember what David Banner said; mixtapes are albums. Just because it doesn't have a major putting a seal of approval on it doesn't change that fact.

There are CLASSIC albums that were not backed by a major, shits an excuse. Mixtapes are not albums. None of my fav rappers have ever made a "mixtape album".

IDK who your favs are but many of other ppl's favs make mixtapes.kanye had one before Graduation.nas had a mixtape before Untitled.Trap or Die Jeezy.Fab had many mixtapes.Jadakiss,50 cent, wayne, Eminem

There is a huge difference between a mixtape by Em and Nas compared to a mixtape by Jeezy or Wayne.

this is an all time low

No I don't think so. There's rap for types of fans out there. Mainstream is what it is, catchy tunes. You can forget diversity in that arena.

I agree in part in regards to over saturation Mixtapes have their role though they just no longert are truly mixtapes now they are just free albums. Mixtapes need to go back to compilations albums featuring a bunch of different rappers and remixes...

I agree with ALL of this... The "mixtape album" has ruined Hip Hop... Like Jay said in '09, Hip Hop needs "Events" again... If Em, Jay, Ye, Nas, and Outkast start dropping free mixtapes, the game is over in the mainstream...

They have dropped mixtapes before but they made them as MIXTAPES and the shit sounds like a mixtape not an album like Jeezy and Wayne and KRIT has been doing. They wasted an asshole load of decent to good material.
