Is Rap at an All Time Low?

I think Rap/Hip Hop is more alive and more diverse than ever. There is a lane for ANY style of rap u like whether its mainstream, trap rap, even that horrorcore shit. The problem we have is instead promoting good music fans are too busy complaining about whats bad or what they don't like. Instead of wasting your time shitting on music you don't like, start promoting some of those artists that are making good music.

Its so simple and thats what it is hnic1978. Anything else is useless. On a lot of other sites theres at least a level of respect for different opinions and more self respect. There could be more people putting you on to whats good and sharing info without the stuff that means nothing because people should be well past arguing about what each other likes (pointless) and on to what they do actually like. But I found underground fans will always down "mainstream" music outta jealousy. "Mainstream fans aint mad at those that like the underground enough to down them except in retaliation. I like some underground and some mainstream.

LMAO at the shameless Beezy plug.... but answer question i think the shit is weak... i find myself downloading older classics like Wu and Dips... Mobb Deep CNN etc..

Shit's weak right now...Everybody Gucci & LV'd out, everybody selling bricks, everybody fuck the baddest bitches, everybody smoke the best weed etc...It's like, all these niggas are the same...There's no difference in the crews and the roster's of these "teams" are weak outside of 2/3 niggas.

YES, ALL TIME LOW. My MP3 Player only has Classic shit from the 80s and 90's, that's the Hip Hop I enjoy. It's funny, Rap got really commercial in 97 and a lot of purist hated that era but even Diddy's and Will Smith's LP's shit on a lot of albums today, even the low tier artist from that era dropped better LP's. Hip Hop is in a sad state right now.

You rap about what you live, and that's what most rappers are living.

That's true, but at the same time there has to be a balance in the music...DMX had money, but that's not all he rapped about...Nas, Hov, Big, Pac, Sigel, Kiss, etc.

Damn I have to agree with most of your initial post other then the Fucking IC chicks or hanging out in the Jackass section of the site. Music has been disappointing as of late even the good shit is just not up to par, we are at that awkward period like the early 80s was for rock music...

Said it before and say it again, mixtapes are the worst fucking thing to happen to hiphop. The music has no value anymore, especially when mixtapes are better than albums. Albums use to be an event (still is for some rappers ie..Em, Jay, Ye, Nas, Outkast, etc), now no one gives two fucking shits. These rappers have oversaturated the game so much with free shit, they don't realize they shorted the shelf life of their music. You have to hold on to some mystique in hiphop imo.

I agree in part in regards to over saturation Mixtapes have their role though they just no longert are truly mixtapes now they are just free albums. Mixtapes need to go back to compilations albums featuring a bunch of different rappers and remixes...

Hip-hop is as soft as ever in my opinion. Most new artists are very bland and non-appealing as well.

It doesn't feel like its hood inspired anymore either, the music down to the fashion lost touch with the streets. The music is very techno or pop inspired, most hip-hop artist dress like hipsters and skaters, how is that hip-hop? Hip-hop used to have its own feel and style now its just like pop music, it has no more edge.

I hear some of the new stuff some is decent but most is wack. Hip-hop just doesnt feel like hip-hop anymore is hard to describe.

I barely listen to new stuff, all i listen is mostly from 1993-2008 stuff and if i feel the need for new music i just go back and look for stuff from the period i never heard before.

The hood element got played out and you see average black kids rocking mohawks and skinny jeans. The world is turned inside out compared to 10 years ago.

mixtapes today are made for underachieving rappers that have very limited subject matter. If you ask a question to a rapper today where he will be in 5 albums from now, he probably say, "I'm still hustling." The shelf life of music is just crap that you shit out of every day.

hip hop is definitely all time low..without a doubt..i don't think it's ever going get to that golden age of the late 80's and 90's to mid 90's era...even early 2000s was hot...still remember that jay-z and nas beef....loved it

Without Mixtapes who will be rapping in 2012?

There will be no Meek Mill, J Cole, Drake, Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar, Wale, Big Sean, Big Krit, Lil Wayne as we know him, 50 Cent etc

Mixtapes helped but TOO Many mixtapes hurt... Artist put out 1 strong tape and see where it goes from there the only dude to be signed without a Mixtape was ASAP Rocky that i can remember.

The artist that are hot today are the dudes who you used to walk by when they tried to hand you they demo. The internet has allowed them to take their hustle digital. The days of just being talented are dead. Now it's either work hard or be nothing. And that's how it should be. I don't care how dope you are lyrically, if you can't put a little work ethic with that then you don't deserve to be heard
