can you niggas be objective tho?

say this wasn't j.cole of roc nation we were discussing

say it was young joey of bricksquad

same singles output, same feature on a smash rnb hit song

same situation all the way around

you niggas would be calling him a mixtape rapper and nothing more

but with j.cole its "grassroots" and "artist development" and "building a fanbase"

why is that?

Because for one, nobody is anticipating anything droppin from Bricksquad(hence the name).

I wouldnt call a nigga with promise just a mixtape rapper...look at Cyhi the Prince for an example that a better comparison. He has a lil buzz based off of Knaye affiliation and a dope mixtape. If he had a Single out and smash RnB feature Id say the same about him.

Plus you forget the "it" factor. Some niggas can blow up no matter what, some cant blow no matter what.

The viral part is what he needs most. I mean artists like Ross, Minaj, Diddly etc are using twitter THE CORRECT WAY to market and put themselves out there. Not only that but you got niggas like Ross putting out videos for every track on a mixtape. I just don't feel like Cole is out here mingling and getting his face out there. I mean I would guess alotta ppl couldn't pick J Cole out of a lineup of 3 niggas. These "tours" he's doing are fine but he needs to connect with ppl on a more personal level if he wants a strong following who will actually buy his album. Ppl say Nicki Minaj is a gimmick, but I've been following her on twitter for a while and she really has connected with her fans through that medium hence her commercial success today. J Cole needs to learn how to speak up and network and stop waiting for the label or Jay z to do the shit for him.

You have some good points in here that i agree with. I just think that he's waiting for the music to get him recognized first. Because we've seen what happens to artist when they become "popular" before their music does.....people just wait for them to live up to the hype, which they rarely do. Nicki is a good example of that, except it worked for her. I wouldnt say it was based on her music though.
I just think dude got time because its not like he has this big name/hype to live up to yet.....outside of hiphop forums

his type of rap doesnt gain huge popularity. niggas want coon shit. and j.cole is one of the few cats out there who actually raps about shit with substance. and sadly, that shit dont sell. (unless u got a white fan base like kid cudi)

and he doesnt have a gimmick. and i HATE to say it, but he probally needs one if he ever wants to really blow up. But what gimmick would even suit him at this point?

i just want to hear some shit from him that doesn't put me to sleep

That's my problem with him having listened to his Mixtapes i found his Music to be very boring and bland i think his Production is his biggest weakness and overall content is pretty boring i understand he doesn't do Hook's and has said himself he gonna use features on his Album for Hook's but Lyrically he is nothing special i would say he is below average Lyrically and his Flow and content is weak

Every Rapper that sells Platinum or Multi Platinum more has a majority white fan base that purchased their records wether it be 2pac, Jay Z, Biggie, Nas, Snoop etc

that's a well known fact

Never heard of that nigga outside of this website...

I tried to give him a chance his Music is just not my thing

I like packages

Just a well all round package of dope Lyrics and emotional content, great Production, Melodic Hook's with emotion and charisma

J Cole is more bland than tap water with horrible Production and below average Rapping talent

At the same time

J Cole said he gonna use features on his Album for all the Hook's so you might get Mary J Blige, Trey Songz, Alicia Keys, Akon etc on the Hook's

But i think to have any chance of even doing more than 60K he really needs to get Production from Kanye West, Just Blaze and others with in the Roc camp cos his Production at the moment will be certain for him to flop badly

who?

i just don't think that nigga is what yall make him out to be

he can rap, that's cool

but the ic paints him as some savior for hip hop that everybody loves who will go platinum as soon as he drops his critically acclaimed debut album

i don't see it like that and i don't know anybody who's checkin for him

i represent the other side

just like a nigga will tell me that the world is bigger than my city or block or whatever, the same goes for you

just cuz all your friends know of him or bump his shit don't mean everybody does

True....but you cant tell usmarine nothing. All the "bitches he knows like Cole"

I mean I know a few people checking for him here and there outside the net, but its nothing like when Drake was buzzing off So Far Gone. Not even close.

Getwitcha

Yeah, because that Toronto show was Drakes show, nigga please you're a straight fucking hater and lol at you thinking a damn near unknown dude at the time spitting a song like Who Dat would connect with a bunch of inbred southern rappers and audience. I'm sure Nas would of gotten the same results at the BET award, these are the same buffoons who got all hyped up of Wacka Flocka incoherent lyrics.

It takes time to build shit, what Cole is going through everyone not name 50, Nelly, etc went through. Yall should know hiphop fans are the biggest dick riders on the planet, it's a popularity contest.
