When was this, it had to be prior to FNL and every great artist has paid their dues performing in hole in the wall clubs or half empty spots. That's how you get better as a performer though, niggas really need to get off this 50 Cent or Drake nonsense about instant fame. It doesn't work that way!

True dat. It was back in September last year. He put on a good show though. Made a fan outta me.

That nigga has a vendetta against Cole for whateva reason.

who?

i just don't think that nigga is what yall make him out to be

he can rap, that's cool

but the ic paints him as some savior for hip hop that everybody loves who will go platinum as soon as he drops his critically acclaimed debut album

i don't see it like that and i don't know anybody who's checkin for him

i represent the other side

just like a nigga will tell me that the world is bigger than my city or block or whatever, the same goes for you

just cuz all your friends know of him or bump his shit don't mean everybody does

Lets say all that shit you typed is true, shouldn't Cole be a lot further along considering the position he's in right now?? Time waits for no rapper in this climate. It'll be November and you niggas will still be on that Cole got next shit. Dude really needs to step his networking game up, because J Cole is known, but he should be WELL KNOWN by now with all the resources he has at his disposal.

I can't agree more with this....I have a feeling J Cole will not drop this year

But who are people comparing him to? Wiz? who came out with his first mixtapes how many years ago and is just now getting love. I think Jay is trying to build his fanbase for free by taking him on tour. The old business model doesnt work anymore(Big radio single=tons of records sold). He's doing the old music business model(grassroots, word of mouth).

Only thing I think would help Cole is more Virals. Puttin out videos for these mixtape cuts. But he was on one of the biggest RnB songs last year..that Miguel joint was fire. IDK waht nigga say

All im saying is... the mainstream world is getting introduced to him slowly. But he is gaining fans with his mixtapes. I bet Rocnation will make a big push when he gets the right song to push.

All it takes is that One song and his album to be done and he'll get the push

can you niggas be objective tho?
say this wasn't j.cole of roc nation we were discussing
say it was young joey of bricksquad
same singles output, same feature on a smash rnb hit song
same situation all the way around
you niggas would be calling him a mixtape rapper and nothing more
but with j.cole its "grassroots" and "artist development" and "building a fanbase"
why is that?

The new business model is what killed some these blow up fast and faded out artists though. This industry is like a game of chess. You can't rush and make the wrong move.

The viral part is what he needs most. I mean artists like Ross, Minaj, Diddy etc are using twitter THE CORRECT WAY to market and put themselves out there. Not only that but you got niggas like Ross putting out videos for every track on a mixtape. I just don't feel like Cole is out here mingling and getting his face out there. I mean I would guess alotta ppl couldn't pick J Cole out of a lineup of 3 niggas. These "tours" he's doing are fine but he needs to connect with ppl on a more personal level if he wants a strong following who will actually buy his album. Ppl say Nicki Minaj is a gimmick, but I've been following her on twitter for a while and she really has connected with her fans through that medium hence her commercial success today. J Cole needs to learn how to speak up and network and stop waiting for the label or Jay z to do the shit for him.
