I'm not going through this thread but this x100
This is really one of the dumbest arguments ever.
Michael Jackson is without a doubt the biggest artist of all time and even he didn't stop anybody from selling records.
Y'all telling me Pac and Big were just so successful that they would've single handedly stopped Jay from having a career?
Did Cube stop Pac from shining in 91 because of Death Certificate?
Jay the only rapper that get shitted on for going gold on his debut. Everybody was not flying off the shelves like y'all say they was.
Sometimes I just laugh at this shyt.....I never heard anybody say Master P or DMX only blew up because Big and Pac wont around....Right on with that Michael Jackson thing, he didnt stop Whitney or Prince from moving units....Some of these cats will say anything....

I don't think it's far fetched at all. He is a worthy person to throw out there. The problem is really there is no consistent definition of what being the GROAT entails. Some might argue the most important thing is skill as a rapper (i.e. lyrics, wordplay, flow, etc...). Others might say its strength of catalog. Others might say its sales and presence. Still others might think its all of that in equal measure.
To me, the people that are saying Jay is without a doubt the GROAT are leaning heavily on sales and presence. To me that's like the weakest of the three metrics, but if no one has set any rules people are going to measure it how they want.
Yea, I kinda got that from a few of the posts that I've read...Thats a go to thing for some people to make their point...But Jay's talent alone has him in the conversation
its not about sales or presence alone.
its about his contribution to the culture since 96. like someone else said already, he checks ALL the boxes.
no one is saying that hes the most GIFTED rapper ever....but he is the GREATEST, ALL THINGS CONSIDERED.
