Hmm,

Lets be honest, when you look at this image, what is your first thought? Be honest. A little freaky, unusual, unsettling.

I think humans are naturally turned off by extremes and look for a balance. Too Light, Too Dark, Too Short, Too Tall is a turn off

Agreed. I think sociological influences such as tribalism and conformity(among other factors) are the reason for that.

whoa. no.

false @BlackJerryMaguire‌

Y'all are evil

aside from the occasional flare such as this piece from a highly judgmental woman with an apparent superiority complex, why is this opinion so prevalent on this board?

I have never been evil or devilish to anyone in my adult life. shrewd and maybe even cunningly evasive when appropriate, but never evil, lol. I highly doubt that I am the exception.

just curious.

a combination of coons gassing you up + legacy of colorism + prevalence of superiority complex (as you mentioned, especially in women of my age group) = evil

@topoftheworld‌ i'm being facetious and serious at the same time. Too many light skinned women have these huge egos based of the attention they receive off their skin and thats a big turn off to me. even if its mostly because of men's actions

CS

Women put way too much if their self worth in their skin tone. When it really comes down to attraction level

@BlackJerryMaguire‌ I hear you and respect your position. I was raised with pride and humility, so the descriptors you mentioned never captured my character or personality. if anything, being of mixed race, my mother being "dark-skinned" while my father was half white, it was easy to feel inferior to others especially within my family. not black enough...not white enough...and don't get me started on my Spanish family, lol (very judgmental) but I guess that was more so indicative of the era in which I came up. I just find it troubling when people pass sweeping connotations about any demographic; especially when I'm included in the segment.

To make a long story a little shorter-

I've always had my pick of men (Black, White, Mexican, etc.) because I'm light skinned and I don't apologize for it.

Other races accept me easier than darker black women, because light skin is more "comfortable" for them. Within our own race it's more "valuable", especially to certain Black men who see a light skinned woman as a prize to obtain; as an object.

In the end we're all guilty of having a skewed perception of skin color and of exhibiting favoritism. Because of this I'm always looking for the distinction between a dislike for dark-skinned girls and a simple preference for light skin when I meet a Black man.

Black men understand what it is like to be valued for their complexion and the misconceptions that come along with being a Black man. But they also put their best foot forward when it comes to the treatment of their light skinned, white, or latino women, but will be much quicker to dog a darker skinnned woman.

Is this why light-skinned women are less likely to take shit off of Black men; because they know they have more options?

Dark skinned men put me first before their darker partners. They give me gifts and allow me to abuse them in incredible ways because they view me as a prize. I use this to my advantage and you dark skinned women should do the same.

Colorism is so steeped in American culture that it is present even at grade-school level, as attested to by my own daughter's struggles with her identity, her lack of "good hair", and her early leeriness of dating Black men.

In closing, please don't think that just because my light skin problems aren't the same as your dark skin problems, that we don't all share in the struggle of being Black together.

I can't say that I disagreed with ANYTHING that she typed.

Lightskint women are coveted by ALOT of black males.. Troof.. Thats why a lot of light skin chicks are conceited lol..

On top of just having a vagina and using Vagina leverage.. In the black community LS women have Light Skin leverage. Most of them want to date a dark dark man and attribute that to "preference"... right.

Dark skin men have Dark skin Leverage when it comes to potential romantic relationships. Most Dark Skint males are highly coveted by ALL Black Women (light and dark).. fact... Black women are proud to admit this because you can say you Like Dark skin Men and it won't sound like self hatred.

And don't get me wrong.. Brown skin brothers like me and light skin brothers get play... but we aint getting noticed based off of our skin color. We get noticed cause we're TALL, RICH, or have some other intangible that keeps us in the game ..i.e (humor, creativity, highly sharp and intelligent ect).

In closing, The light Skin girl is just being light skin. nothing new their.

This is the only issue that the IC has introduced to me.

Growing up where I was, we never had this light skinned/dark skinned problem. Not in the hood, not at school, not in the family, no where. I can't relate or understand any or either side of this... discussion.

She's right, and most of you dudes are exhibit A: you put light-skinned women on a pedestal.

I am really troubled though by her willingness to exploit the pedestal she is put on by these men.

This is the same for me. Growing up I never seen any light skin/dark skin issues.
