Probably one reason has to do with digestion, since diet is nearly everything. If you eat and sleep late, your digestion will not be efficient and that can disturb your sleep. You also don't want to develop the habit of eating late all the time. But I've heard the don't-eat-late rule mainly in regard to weight loss/gain.

I'm the same. Ambien doesn't help me at all and other medicines I tried too.

This helps a little sometimes

Jogging/running later in the afternoon and Avoid drinking too much caffeine, drink more herbal tea. Also keep a boring book near you. Read the book sitting on a chair or something, even if you had some sleep and you wake up, get out from your bed and start reading the book.
 
We're not suppose to eat or have our body digest food when sleeping because sleeping is when our body repairs and renews itself chasing down all them free radicals. If you got food in ya belly your body has to share time digesting and not repairing.

Eat healthy, work out consistently, and don't eat after 7PM. Don't keep a tv in your bedroom and read a book before going to sleep.

That don't eat after 7 pm ain't possible for some. Shit some people don't even leave work or get home from work til after 7 depending on the commute
 
Also we eat food for energy so by eating food b4 you start sleeping is just adding useless pounds to your body basically (not being used for any)

If you do have cravings keep it very light.

During the day I can see that because we are utilizing much more proteins and such and if you aren't putting that stuff in your body its going to get it from your bones and muscles.
 
I heard 2pac only usually got 4 hours sleep, Arnold Schwarzenegger said he only needed 6, most nights I get between 3 and 6 if I am lucky, I mostly do this through choice because I just like staying up late, cut out the coffee or restrict yourself to 1 or 2 cups per day, drink water and try busting a nut before bed.

I definitely master before bed. That's key to have any hope of falling asleep
