we got caught up in a little back and forth but I think you missed my original point I made in my first point in this thread. Which was the thread started sounded arrogant putting an age on who can and can't tell him anything about hip-hop. I disagree with that because I too study music before my time and can hold a good intellegent conversation with an older head about their 50's and 60's music. The thing I disagreed with you on though is that you came with a similar arrogance saying you know just as much or more than those who lived it. All I said was no that's not true. Though I feel I am very knowledgeable on my parent's music and their era, I'm not going to be so arrogant to proclaim to them that I know just as much or more than they do about it. That would be idiotic. Point is it's cool you probably know way more than other your age but don't be so narrow minded or hard headed to think someone older could possibly teach you even more.

That's what us old head have against yall youth...yall fuckin hard headed like that. Yall's beef is that us old head think we know everything. That's why I came off the top saying right away that I'm not one of those type of old heads that believe they is no value in something the younger generation has to say. I believe there is. But when you come off like you know everything already, I'm gonna respond the same way as you youngsters respond when yall encounter an old head who comes off that way. You up in here telling niggas you know more because you read/heard it. I'm up in here saying I know more because I lived it. That don't mean I discredit everything you know like you are doing to us tho. I'm here to share, not diss but it's impossible to do when dealing with arrogant hard heads that already feel they know it all. I don't club anymore but I'd be a fool to sit up here and tell those that still do what's going on in them now just because I get updates from young homies.

dude i never even dissed u for the record i don't know it all but so do u old heads either don't know it all either.

like I said, that's why I said from the beginning that I didn't agree with the T/S. you responded so I kept trying to clarify my position. be you're the one that came off as mad arrogant saying you pretty much already knew everything and nobody that lived it could tell you shit. it's cool dog. I aint trippin. been a good convo

you got me confused now. what books are you talking about? aint the store where you get books from? The books I got are mostly autobiography types. I don't read books about shit I lived. I read books on an individual's perspective mostly. I did pick up a couple of books about Pac's death that I thought were interesting. But like I readily admitted a few posts back, I'd be an arrogant idiot to tell someone who was standing on that corner watching the shooting that I know more because I read a book on it. That's basically what you been claiming in this thread in regards to your knowledge.

I remember when LL was bigger than Jay Z, but that ended in 1997 when he dropped phenomenon. Cats wasn't feeling that shit.

I stated in the past that I also remember when NaS used to stay gettin' shitted on by the purists (1996-2000) for trying to appeal to the mainstream. After Stillmatic dropped that talk ceased.

I remember when Jazz rap and Boom Bap was hot (I liked the former better but some preferred the latter.)

Don't mind me, just ramblin.'

I'm just gonna go ahead and let you keep believing that so a white kid doesn't embarrass you in front of this whole forum.

Born in '78, I grew up with hiphop. My high school soundtrack is '93-'97....WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU HONESTLY GONNA TELL ME THAT I AIN"T LIVE THROUGH?

Quoted part sums it all up.

Some of us 'Old Heads' were 14,15+ during the golden age.

We saw BIGGIE in concert. We didn't watch Pac movies on a Saturday afternoon on BET we went to the theater when shit was released. We witnessed the DeathRow/BadBoy beef. We remember GhostFace as the dude in the mask. We know what it is like to watch MTv and BET in the early afternoon.... not in the evening primetime hours to catch reality shows.

We lived this shit.

Basement parties every week where ppl actually danced.

"Engine engine number 9" was followed by the full Blacksheep song not the Fat Man Scoop club mix.

We copped the Source and other mags. We bought and traded mix TAPES (yes tapes) and CD's. Not just DL'ed songs.

It wasn't just a great time for hip hop. R&B was KILLING it during OUR time. RKelly before he pissed on kids. Jodeci, MJB. Dancehall Raggae was too. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhttttt!!!!

Y'all can't pick that shit up in a book. You can't live it or breathe it in pages.

Young'Uns dis the old heads as they sit there wearing all of our 80's gear. SMH. Yall can't even get your own style.

Not saying y'all opinion ain't shit. But don't front like you know something just cuz ya picked it up online thru forum convo's, wiki and youtube.

There is a reason why no one from this current generation's music group is part of the GOAT convo. Our gen's group has that shit on lock.

Year of the TWIN 7 post.

i get what you're asking now...maybe I am slow lol. to answer your question, 'none'. So you're saying if i write a book saying the EXACT same thing I'm saying here then it makes what I said more valid? ok well print out the pages of this thread, staple the pages together, read it and then maybe the point I made will be more valid. Yep, makes sense to me. Don't beleive shit your granddaddy tell you unless he writes it down. chances are he's a liar if he doesn't

I remember when I couldn't stand lyricism unless it was in Jazz Rap (Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Gangstarr) but I couldn't stand the WU outside of ODB

First time I heard Common was in Retrospect for Life and I hated it. As I grew older I was able to digest complex lyrics in more raw forms.

Of course, all the kids loved G Funk and Mobb Music!!!!

The South was super conscious back then (Scarface, Goodie Mobb) and they still kept the parties pumped back then (Ghost Town DJ's, 69 Boyz)

One more thing, I remember when Jamaican music and influence WAS STRAIGHT YARDCORE!

Wasn't no Sean Kingston, it was BORN JAMAICANS! That was the shit.

I remember when the Jamaican American Heavy D came out with black coffee no sugar no cream...My mama loved that shit. You'll never hear a mainstream song like that today.
