If he dropped "Sunshine" today it would still be a hit...

1) He was crucified back then youngster

2) Thats like saying "i'd be crucified if I wore a Starter jacket today". This is not Back to the Future, it dont work that way.

Sunshine is tight and its better than that wacc ass u owe me trash where nasir was roccin leather cowboy hats nastradaumas was definitely a prophet cuz thats the irs' theme song for nas in 2012

Jigga bars was on some ride or die tip wit fox bacc doorin

Classick tracc

Sunshine video wasnt even bad. The fish eye lens was breaking technology in 1997 lol. Besides Jay Z killed that city is mine video which dropped before sunshine so real Jay Z fans like me knew he had to make a party song and loud colored video for a second single. Sunshine song is so dope that i overlook whatever faults the video got Jay Z ripped that beat to shreds. And in all fairness to Jay Z only a month or 2 later he dropped Streets Is Watching VHS and anykind of hip hop film at that time was rare and well appreciated.

Not even close. Jay's flow was so much more fluid back then. If anything he would be praised for showing that he still has it, instead of going bar for bar with average emcees like Kanye.

everybody fucked up and made one of those videos.....everybody

@haf bayked

You are absolutely right, because this type of song and video is what most likely killed Mic Geronimo's career.

THANKS PUFF.......

More evidence that I say Puff is one of the reasons why hip hop died on the mainstream level and replaced with commercialism.

And I believe Jay even is documented in saying that he hated Sunshine, the video, at least. He laughed about it, but he looks back at the video shoot and thought it was cool at the time, since that was the movement, but now regrets it because it made him look silly.

I'm with you on all this shit. The video was corny, but I definitely thought the song was dope.

Sunshine was basically 21 questions before 21 questions. I remember reading magazines ratings of Vol 1 back then (The Source, Blaze,Rap Pages,etc) and Jay got criticized alot for that album, i remember them criticizing him for making personal songs like (You must love me, Lucky Me,etc). Ironic isn't it, the same mfs who say he is shallow now were the same ones who shat on him back then when he got deeper.

@ bolded- Nahhh. Sunshine, to quote Beanie Sigel, was on some 'sappy beats...flutes and xylophones' type ish. It was 1) the SOUND of the song, and 2)the video..that made it a target, not the fact he was rappin to a chick.

@ Everythign else- that's not correct. They killed him for the upbeat, party, 'life is good' direction of the album, since RD was obviously more street-oriented. Sunshine and songs like 'What girls like' and 'Who u wit' were the foundation for the 'all he talks about is bytches and money' arguments. Songs like Lucky Me and U must love me were hailed if anything, not crucified. I mean those are the types of songs that made RD, thats what people wanted
