I taught my black kids that their elite upbringing would protect them from racism. I was wrong.

The author is kinda crazy really. His family was one of the first to integrate a rich white family, and he claims the experience was bad, yet when he has his family, he does his best to surround them with a bunch of white people. How does that make sense?

Integration was a good thing, but people like his parents getting the mindset that the best thing to do with integration was to move over to the white side of town instead of using their newfound rights to help build up the black side of town is part of why black neighborhoods are still fucked up.

So was integration it really a good thing?

I feel for his kids cause they only know how they were raised. As for the father fuck him and all the black people like and his wife. Funny and fucked up thing is when people like him get into some shit they always want to run back to black people for support and like fools most black give them that support and get nothing in return. Cause once the situation is over these people go back to doing, acting and living like they were before which is saying fuck those black people I'm not like or part of them.

Yes, integration is a good thing. Some people win the lottery and then use the money to screw up their lives. As a result they wind up worse off than they were. The results don't change the fact that winning the lottery is a good thing. Some people are just too stupid to wisely capitalize on such a winfall. The same goes for integration. It opened up a lot of new opportunities for black people that could have been used to uplift the black community. The problem isn't with integration, the problem is that people believed the most important benefit of integration was being able to rub elbows with white people. When in reality, the most important benefit was being able to take a bigger piece of the American infrastructure which could have and should have been used to uplift Black communities.

I respect what you saying and that makes plenty of sense and it has plenty of truth in it as well. Personally I am still torn about integration and how positive it was for black people.

integration was all way bad for blacks. fuck that. ive started many threads on the subject. its the worse thing that has happened to us other than slavery and racism itself

I read this a week ago and something after the article threw me off (like it was fictional) so I decided not to make this thread. I was confused at the wording of what I saw so I still don't know if this is fictional.

Same thing I was thinking.

Realistic scenario....but a fake/troll story.

The family looks like actors on a sitcom from the 70's or 80's.

Almost like it was part of a skit on a comedy show or something.

Yall niggas falling offf

Smash on his wife,

Now to actually contribute to the thread

I have yet to encounter a real act of racism other than playing games on the internet or when I ride the train and the white ladies clutch there shit

Ima say this.

White ppl wasn't gon let blacks have their own "country" inside their country.

That would have started a war foreal.

I think the community of Greenwood (AKA "Black Wall Street") in Tulsa, OK would disagree with you on integration being a good thing

What does that have to do with integration? If anything, that was a pretty segregated area. Hell, there is a good possibility that all that shit went down the way it did because the whites were mad that the black part of town was better in many ways than the white part of town. You're almost making a case that segregation is bad because this is an example of what white people do when blacks start to rise a little too high on their own.

bruh......after the riots destroyed Black Wall Street, desegregation laws were passed

the black community hasn't had anything close to Black Wall Street ever since which is what is sorely needed

SMH @ your logic when effects of segregation is what created Black Wall Street

the minute we integrated we've never been able to consolidate our resources in a similar manner cause coon niggaz been raised to believe patronizing a white business is better

You're trying to make it sound like dude is oblivious to racism and that he doesn't give back to the community. Did you read the article? Cause I'm wondering where you're getting that. Yes, what this couple is doing is problematic in many ways, but that doesn't mean that their usual attitude is like "fuck black people."

You obviously didn't understand my point or the lottery analogy. If the question is whether or not integration was bad, the answer is "no, it wasn't." How can getting more rights and opportunity ever be bad in and of itself? If the question is have the results of integration been bad, then that answer is debatable. You could make an argument that they have been, but as I said before that has more to do with black people making the wrong decisions after integration than it does with integration itself. Nothing about integration stopped black people from having another Black Wallstreet. It actually should have been easier to accomplish that after integration.

Also, saying that the problem is that "coon niggas believe patronizing a white business is better" is a little idiotic honestly. It's not so much that blacks are raised to think white stores are better. It's that Americans in general find big chain stores, which are usually owned by white people, are more convenient and easier. It ain't like the majority of black people out there are choosing white stores over black stores when all things are considered equal. Black people are choosing stores like Walmart and Target over homegrown stores for the same reason all americans are choosing those stores over Moms and Pops stores. It just hurts us more than whites because when those stores get chosen by whites, some of that money still goes back into their communities. When our money goes into those stores, it's pretty much lost to us.

you cherrypicking when it's convenient to make your point tho

the implicit question was always whether the results of integration were bad or not..........otherwise what are we even debating if everyone is dissecting the concept of integration from the results of it?

you can try to say integration has nothing to do with black people making "wrong" decisions, but you conveniently forget that if a more powerful group merges with a less powerful group, then the less powerful group ultimately loses their identity

you even see this happen with businesses when there are mergers, which is why anti-trust laws exist

how convenient that the black community makes "wrong" decisions about economic endeavors when they are integrated into a culture that systematically degrades everything about them from the day they are born until they die...........when you are brainwashed to ignore racial solidarity and economic strength what do you expect to happen?

and that's ultimately the point, yeah Americans as a whole kill mom and pop stores, but black folks should know it's really to our own detriment whenever we help kill small businesses

to use your lottery analogy, what's the difference between someone who blows their lottery winnings, and someone who smartly uses them to make a come-up? usually it's education and access to better investments

but you think somehow it's a coincidence that after integration black folks tend to have the poorest access to high quality education? you think it's a coincidence that we have so many limited investment opportunities compared to other racial groups?

you should take the blindfold off bruh

Y'all going way to hard at him, was he unrealistic? Yes. Was too he idealistic? Yes. This isn't a referendum on his blackness. He got a nigger wake up call.

Both questions have come up. Some people believe the concept of integration is bad. Some believe that integration just worked out for the worse for blacks. All I'm saying is that I don't believe the first is true at all, but the second does have some truth to it.

People like you throwing out Black Wallstreet and miss obvious shit, like how they firebombed the town and literally no one in the country gave a fuck. Why? Because during segregation the Law didn't give two shits about black people. We still get a raw deal, but a bunch of crackas couldn't just wipe out a whole black neighborhood and get away with it. That is a result of the Civil Rights movement and integration, but ya'll want to ignore that fact for some reason. Again, you can't just make this wholesale statement that blacks are worse off after integration and you definitely can't support that statement by throwing out examples like Black Wallstreet, which certainly was not a typical black neighborhood at the time.
