When I talk about a young early twenties above average lyricist....that heavily reps a major US urban hub with a high black population...thats signed to one of the vanity labels of one of the biggest names in rap...thats been grinding since about 07/08ish and has a successful mixtape series...and raps about everything from relationships to swag to clothes/shoes to somewhat conscious subject matter....

Who am I talking about? Big Sean or Wale?

Its not so much their style and flow thats interchangeable. It's their image. They fill the same niche.

Wiz Khalifa?? ........If your going to use that vauge ass surface level comparison I don't know who ur taking about you could be speaking on a host of different people .... And how does your image differentiate you more than your style and flow?? When that's The primary way an artist message gets conveyed to the consumer??

so number 1 rap song>>>number 1 overall???

ok.

Huh? No one said he was number one overall. I just said that it would expected to think he sold more than just 200k since he had a number one song.

number 1 rap song dont matter too much at all, u can have a number 1 rap song and still not even be top 50 overall..

this is true. Black sheep had a number 1 rap song back in '91, but nobody knows who they are.

Wiz isn't affiliated with any major rap star right now and primarily has the whole "weed rapper" image thing going for him.

And Pittsburgh isn't as known for its Black population as DC or Detroit is.

Back to the point, a clearly conveyed image will trump any subject matter, style or flow because most people don't give a shit about lyricism or lyrical styles. An image gives people something to relate to.

What im saying is that Wale and Big Sean imagewise nearly have nothing distinguishable from each other to the general public. You have to sell yourself imagewise first because thats what people both consciously/subconsciously are checking for first.

Never understood why muthafuckas care about record sales anyway. Aint like you seein that bread. Aint like sales determines who the dope niggas are. Check this out, Game's sales will not even sniff a fraction of Wayne's shit and I know for sure that R.E.D. is better than Carter 4. Dumb nigga shit, that's all this is.
