so just because he doesn't get played on the radio in atlanta means he is irrelevant??

and because you can recite a line from nasty that makes him irrelevant too?

Nas has been in the game for over 20 plus years bruh

think on that for a moment...

being played in the club hasn't pushed an album plat for couple years now either.

he has a fan base already so i don't get the out the blue...

but rascoe is being played in the club more right now..

does that make him more relevant or important than nas?

Depends on what you mean by relevant. You rarely see a top 5 GOAT MC list without Nas. You can't go 4 hours without seeing some niggas hating on Nas on the IC, a lot of the great MC's of today stay listing Nas and Illmatic as big influences. Sounds pretty relevant to me. But again, define relevant?

Basquit the gayest wit the guest appearance

Its a difference between nas fans who post on message boards and reality

On the net nas is a legend and revered mightily sadly on the streets he's not

If theres a group of 25 students at a college and u ask who's the goat 2 maybe 3 will say nas

Thats what I meant

I dont measure relevancy by record sales

I go off the consensus of the streets, the spins at parties, and when around others in their cars at their houses, his current impact and anticipation

Nas is irrelevant in those categories

That's what I wanted to hear from you.

I needed you to say that so I could make a mega-thread about how relevant 50-Cent is in the streets, on the radio, in the clubs, and at the parties.

i hope im still posting on AHH when im 40

That's a silly wish, you should "hope" that at your age you'd have the social skills to be out having fun instead of posting on AHH.

Nas is number 2 on my list...number 1 if I wake up on some militant shit. With that said, he's not a desired artist for the masses, but I'll always check out whatever he releases. The problem with this thread is it was made because Jay is a more desired artist right now, but the thread starter doesn't like it. He's a great artist, but the masses don't care for him. He's more relevant than Soulja Boy, but he's not on Hov's level. Does this mean Hov is a better artist? Not necessarily...just depends on what you want to hear. I'm smart enough to be able to appreciate both for what they have to offer. I wish more could do the same.

My bad.

A poster told me that Nas was irrelevant to the culture because nobody wants to hear trash-garbage about Pyramids and Tombs, and if your music isn't being played in strip-joints or after-hours then you are irrelevant as an artist.

I can fully understand some of the hatred that Nas gets because a lot of his material is culture-specific but in my honest opinion I think he is still relevant to the genre especially NY HipHop.

His value to HipHop is immeasurable if you consider that he is on his tenth major label release which puts him in an exclusive fraternity along with only a handful of emcee's

Of course there's a difference, I have yet to see a website that perfectly mirrors real life. But then again, how is the net not part of reality? especially considering that everyone is on the net in 2011-2012. The internet plays a huge role in keeping you relevant

For example, a nigga may listen to Nasty on YouTube several times, put it on their iPod/MP3, and have like 100 spins on it. So it's hard to tell what's being played by the "consensus".

And you know damn well you don't what niggas is playing in their houses, lol. Plus J. Cole didn't have the party spins on lock, but guess what? he sold 217k first week, and might go gold before New Years.
