i been tinkerin wit post production for a while now, but never seemed to find the right sound, that near mastered sound...of course as long as i been rappin, niggas round da way will tell u the quality of the songs sound perfect, but when i let an actual dj hear it, dey always tell me bout mastering...

so i ask that the church of fl studio check out dis beat and tell me what it needs to get that mastered sound, shit tell me bout the vocals too. i aint lookin for an opinion on the actual song just yet, just da quality...

the quality on this joint is pretty good - I'd bring the snares/claps out just a little; as far as vocals, usually I get cats to lay at least two main vocal tracks and anywhere from 2 to 4 ad-libs; then I do full pans on the adlibs and add delays to accent words to give the vocal track more life and depth. I still do my final mixes in pro tools, even though you can achieve the same quality results in fl - I'm still learning that phase; I use a wave plug-in called L3 multimaximizer to get that "mastered" sound - it has pre-sets and is easy to understand; tha mastering shit is real tricky, so I try to stay away from them hard-to-use joints - LOL

I'll give you an example:

I run FL Studio 6,7 and 9 (I have some older projects that don't want to work properly in newer versions).

My current machine is old, a 3.4GHz Intel Pentium 4 HT (Prescott core, socket 478) with 2GB RAM, running WinXP SP3.

For me to render a project with, say, 12 tracks, of with 5 or 6 are using the Fruity SoundFont Player and the rest various VST's I have loaded, it takes probably 5 minutes for a 3min project to about 10min for longer projects.

Rendering is less a function of RAM, and more about how powerful your processor is. My machine would have been state-of-the-art in 2004. In 2010, it's a dinosaur but still gets the job done.

for me, it took one of my partners to break it down. I had fl for years, but never used it - I just couldn't see myself clicking those little-ass boxes and shit LOL. my boy, who's an mpc user like me, hipped me to it and I was like "nigga - please tell me ther's another way other than clickin' them lil' boxes, mayne! ". he broke down the shit to where I can use it similarly to a mpc (sequence/song building). using the piano-roll to tweak shit is dope, and all of my vst's load into it flawlessly. I had already begun using battery for chopping samples, so integrating that into FL was a breeze. hands down, FL is the best thing to happen to my studio set-up. period.
