Because Ether created a moment for one of the biggest rap beefs of all time. The whole world was waiting on a NaS response after Takeover 5 months prior and boy did NaS deliver. It takes a special kind of tactician to wait so he can drop a scathing diss song on your birthday. Imagine Jay and the ROC poppin bottles on his bday cuz they think they won and then they turn on Hot 97. What's even more fucked up is Christmas is like 3 weeks after Jay's birthday, he couldn't even enjoy xmas cuz he had to hear it everywhere.....
The others just didn't hit as hard, Curtis was stupid he just called him by his birth name and You Gotta Love It didn't go anywhere because Jay-Z didn't respond.
Jayz didn't respond cuz that's the only way he could have won Bc Jay lost the streets. And cam is a viable opponent but Jay knew he could win off public perception. Ether didn't have a impact on anybody except Nas. Ether revived Nas career. Jay just kept doing what he did. But how can ether be special when it took 5 months, and the general consensus was that Nas lost. Curtis was cam and 50 collaborating trying to bring attention to nyc but the diss was equal to ether. He called him Curtis, saying that he is not who he say he was. "You ain't 50 , 50 cent from BK" that's harsh
And you gotta love was real ether that's y Jay didn't respond he rather not say anything bc once he did he would validate cams statement (which he later did on Dig A Hole)
Winning in the streets ? Cam'ron got shot and almost robbed, he lost the feeling in 2 fingers on his left hand SMMFH. The streets don't mean anything. Ether didn't revive NaS' career, NaS was the biggest selling artist in NY (before DMX) and most revered, after Big died he was the Undisputed KONY. Curtis was stupid and didn't say anything meaningful, he said he was "buck tooth with rabbit teeth", a snitch and called him out by his name. 50 Cent had Jim Jones and Juelz Santana doing songs with him on stage and shit. You say Cam won in the streets how, if his own team wouldn't back him in his beef when he was supposed to have the biggest movement in NY ? Ether is a classic, shit it's a phrase and a reaction on the IC.
He got shot in DC , bc he came thru the hood of DC in a blue Lamborghini, and DC thought they could get points off the Kony. And then he came back shot a video with his arm in a sling and shitted on DC and Jayz in one verse. dropped kills season the movie and album and had the streets of Ny in a frenzy. And then went on Hot 97 and shitted on Jayz in front of nyc. Cam a street legend, he only care about Nyc. He could care less what everyone else think. I'm here to tell everybody the real reaction to these records and their impact. Cam and Jim and 50 have came out and said the beef with fifty was not real beef. It was really a dipset gunit collaboration to bring nyc back but the Curtis track is still the best diss anybody has ever made to 50. At that point Jay had completely left nyc and its rap scene.
Nas the best selling ? Most revered? Nas career was in shambles before JayZ dissed. He was a complete afterthought during the emergence of nyc mixtape scene, rocafella reign and down started to pick up steam and def an afterthought while 50 was reigning. After hate me now , no one was playing Nas until ether then made u look. Nas impact on nyc is sensationalized. Biggie dissed him , pac dissed him, Jay dissed him , 50 dissed him. Nobody was giving Nas any respect, he ruined his relationship with funkmaster flex. And dj Kay slay. He just wasn't putting music out for a long stretch. I give Nas credit for titling the track Ether but it's impact is sensationalized through revisionist history. The cam diss records are given love because of how brutal they were and Cams business savvy.
