Ether was filled with non provable statements and jokes and ppl treat this as the standards for diss records. Then Camron takes the same route to slaughter jayz and 50 cent and so called hip hop purist act as if it was insignificant or wack. Both of these diss records overshadowed ether by far. Nas was dead when ether came out . Cam shut nyc down with both these diss records. And they are arguably better songs than ether. Ether is overrated by Nas stans. Even xzibits diss to jermaine dupri is comparable to ether.

What makes ether better honestly?

Nas went plat before ether came out. Sooo ummm yeah

What does that mean? Jay sold 10 times more than Nas ever did and....

You said nas was dead he wasn't, jay always had a commerical hit he pushed nas rarely pushes his radio hits. Ether still come up today cause's arguments and gets people in their feelings. Look at this thread your ethering your own shit by saying it wasn't all that or whatever but 14yrs later its on your mind. "That Ether the shit that makes your soul burn slow !

No I brought it up bc I'm on the IC and ether is the tabernacle here but I personally know of and seen the impact of other diss records. I lived through all these disses. None can compare to takeover. I'm tryna get y'all to see that most y'all just bandwagon dicjriders when it comes to ether bc I lived it and seen it

Takeover was a bunch of opinions cock jockies tried to make fact. Look at nas lp's 2 back to back classics i am was tough and Nastradamus was weak compared to the other 3 but still had 6 bangers 3 ok tracks and few weak ones outta 15 or 16 tracks and 2 of them were skits so that 1 hot album every 10yr shit is outta there. Takeover was a reach. Still fire but reach.

I'm right in ny cam shit didn't have any impact outside that r.kelly line cut it out. Yoy trying to rewrite shit. Cam biggest diss was that stan shit. Nigga fuck jada is harder than takeover, 2nd round knock out is damn near equal to it, we know what ether is to it, cut it out

Because Ether created a moment for one of the biggest rap beefs of all time. The whole world was waiting on a NaS response after Takeover 5 months prior and boy did NaS deliver. It takes a special kind of tactician to wait so he can drop a scathing diss song on your birthday. Imagine Jay and the ROC poppin bottles on his bday cuz they think they won and then they turn on Hot 97. What's even more fucked up is Christmas is like 3 weeks after Jay's birthday, he couldn't even enjoy xmas cuz he had to hear it everywhere.....

The others just didn't hit as hard, Curtis was stupid he just called him by his birth name and You Gotta Love It didn't go anywhere because Jay-Z didn't respond.

Jayz didn't respond cuz that's the only way he could have won Bc Jay lost the streets. And cam is a viable opponent but Jay knew he could win off public perception. Ether didn't have a impact on anybody except Nas. Ether revived Nas career. Jay just kept doing what he did. But how can ether be special when it took 5 months, and the general consensus was that Nas lost. Curtis was cam and 50 collaborating trying to bring attention to nyc but the diss was equal to ether. He called him Curtis, saying that he is not who he say he was. "You ain't 50 , 50 cent from BK" that's harsh

And you gotta love was real ether that's y Jay didn't respond he rather not say anything bc once he did he would validate cams statement (which he later did on Dig A Hole)

Really? Illmatic got 5 mics in The Source and Reasonable Doubt got 4 mics. So Jay Z is saying that he took a line from an album that got 5 mics and made it into a "hot song"? Nonsense.

Anyway, how is that a "fact"?

I said absolutely nothing about illmatic being wack. Other ppl verified the tech story. When you make statements like that , that's not an opinion. Nas claiming jayz chased him down in his project building asking for his phone number calling him a dickridin F faggot who love attention, only ppl who would feel that is ppl who already didn't like Jay.

Cam was around jayz a lot n peeped his ways so his lines hold more weight. Jayz "the King of New York" open toed sandals wit jeans on. Cam spoke up for nyc. He exposed jayz. But ppl are so sheep minded they just believe what jayz say bc cam independent and and he made man and got put on by biggie and Jay feel the vacant spot from big is for him and Jay had beef with mase. Jay follow the street laws too. Who can't see this

Winning in the streets ? Cam'ron got shot and almost robbed, he lost the feeling in 2 fingers on his left hand SMMFH. The streets don't mean anything. Ether didn't revive NaS' career, NaS was the biggest selling artist in NY (before DMX) and most revered, after Big died he was the Undisputed KONY. Curtis was stupid and didn't say anything meaningful, he said he was "buck tooth with rabbit teeth", a snitch and called him out by his name. 50 Cent had Jim Jones and Juelz Santana doing songs with him on stage and shit. You say Cam won in the streets how, if his own team wouldn't back him in his beef when he was supposed to have the biggest movement in NY ? Ether is a classic, shit it's a phrase and a reaction on the IC.

He got shot in DC , bc he came thru the hood of DC in a blue Lamborghini, and DC thought they could get points off the Kony. And then he came back shot a video with his arm in a sling and shitted on DC and Jayz in one verse. dropped kills season the movie and album and had the streets of Ny in a frenzy. And then went on Hot 97 and shitted on Jayz in front of nyc. Cam a street legend, he only care about Nyc. He could care less what everyone else think. I'm here to tell everybody the real reaction to these records and their impact. Cam and Jim and 50 have came out and said the beef with fifty was not real beef. It was really a dipset gunit collaboration to bring nyc back but the Curtis track is still the best diss anybody has ever made to 50. At that point Jay had completely left nyc and its rap scene.

Nas the best selling ? Most revered? Nas career was in shambles before JayZ dissed. He was a complete afterthought during the emergence of nyc mixtape scene, rocafella reign and down started to pick up steam and def an afterthought while 50 was reigning. After hate me now , no one was playing Nas until ether then made u look. Nas impact on nyc is sensationalized. Biggie dissed him , pac dissed him, Jay dissed him , 50 dissed him. Nobody was giving Nas any respect, he ruined his relationship with funkmaster flex. And dj Kay slay. He just wasn't putting music out for a long stretch. I give Nas credit for titling the track Ether but it's impact is sensationalized through revisionist history. The cam diss records are given love because of how brutal they were and Cams business savvy.

Stop saying you're not being a revisionist when it's clear that you are, in fact, being one.

So you just gon choose to omit what people were saying about how Nas had Jay depressed and desperate after the release of the track? Beans confirmed it and so did others. Had Jay all in his feelings on his birthday. If that's not a diss track that served its purpose, I don't know what is.

And you can sit there and type til you get carpal tunnel about the impact of some under-the-radar tracks all you want. You can scream until you're blue in the face from the top of Everest. It will not, however, make one bit of a difference to anyone.

From hip-hop heads to casual fans, Ether is what it is. You can't change that so get over it.

I fuck with "you gotta love it" but "Bigger Picture" is Cam's classic jay diss imo

My favorite Cam diss of alltime and one of my favorite diss records period, is this joint and he didnt even rap on the shit lol

With that said, aint shit fuckin with Ether besides "hit em up"

How am I being a revisionist? I'm telling you the truth. Ether did not have jayz depressed. His career did not suffer one bit. I'm telling you what I lived thru, The cam diss records had more of an immediate impact than ether. The difference is that cam didn't apologize and did not pretend so that he can get in jayz good graces to reap the benefits, and have multiple media machines hype up his career.

Bigger picture was a lil cease diss. And cam talking Ethelred ether

You ain't got no ether for me man?

Jayz got a real dislike for Cam because first off, he knows the Kony spot came down to him and cam. Bc the og Kony shitted on Nas so Nas wasn't even an option to be Kony. Then Jay was dissin made bc mase had next up to be Kony before he left the game. So big puts on cam. And cam drops two yrs after Jay so there isn't a real gap. Cam was writing for big L , lil cease, (cam wrote a hit record before Nas and jayz) and jayz stabs the nigga who put cam on, big partner.

Nas was just a necessary casualty for Jay in order to get the crown. In this picture Nas is an afterthought
