How is Eminem anywhere near a top 10 rapper based on catalog alone?

Forget the rest of the catalog for a second. Let's say Eminem has ONE classic and two dope albums/ arguable classics. Guess what... That put's him ABOVE Method Man (solo shit) and RIGHT NEXT to Kanye and Redman (his personal favorite) for catalog.

Damn, good point. Well, we can argue that Em's catalogue is already better than Mef's (4 album in 18 years, I can divide). And I'm a Redman fan, so my bias will tell you his catalogue SHITS on Em's. Rapwise, it's not even close between Em and Kanye, but yes, Ye's catalogue is better. I actually prefer a lot of lesser MC's catalogues over Em's, but Em is still better than them cats lyrically. I guess it comes to what does one take in account when making these lists. Catalogue and skills are important, but they gotta average out. Like, Canibus can't make the cut cuz his music sucks, and Ye unfortunately can't make the cut cuz Rhymefest wrote his best verse. Em doesn't have the best catalogue by far, but it's good enough to where it's gotta count for something.

He's definitely a top 5 spitter in the game. Catalogue wise... not so much. 99-02 Em was on a GOAT run (all 3 albums are 5 mics, fuck a hater), but after that, son went downhill. Still had bars, but the drugs and the goofy shit fucked up his catalogue. And by the time he got to Recovery, he was spittin lines like "call me Elton John cuz I'm a mean cocksucker". So GOAT list, he's fallen from the 10th spot. But he's still one of my favorite MCs. I disagree with Encore being the worst album ever though, shit had some bangers on it.

So what you say goes? I like SSLP and MMLP but all 3 albums 5 mics, fuck a hater? So if i disagree im a hater? I don't even think The Eminem Show is that good. GOAT run? C'mon duke.

Ive always asked this question myself but what i think it is is that they rate him as a spitter and that only. I think that's unfair tho cuz then you have alot of black artists who can spit prolly better than Em but also don't have the best catalog and cuz of that don't get rated high. There is defenitely that white thing too which gives him an extra edge.

It Was Written is a classic tho. The ONLY reason ppl didnt call it a classic back at the time was cuz they considered Nas an underground MC and thats the album he finally blew up with, so they hated. Only a Nas album with songs like "The Message", "Suspect", "Affirmative Action", "If I Ruled The World", "Street Dreams", "Black Girl Lost", "Shootouts", "I Gave You Power", "Watch Them Niggas", "Take It In Blood" etc etc can be considered "mediocre" or "average". Lyrics, impact, still holds up til' this day etc - in order words classic.
