50-70% taxes? Yep I'm broke as hell but I got "free" health care.

Except the poverty rate in Denmark is extremely low. So you're not broke at all. And you don't have to haggle with insurance companies every time.

No this doesn't mean they're broke. They've got a very adequate standard of living; even by U.S. standards

yeah if everybody is broke I would guess that the poverty rate would be pretty low.

You're reading stats backwards. If the poverty rate is low, few people are in poverty. If the poverty rate is high, many people are in poverty.

People in Denmark ain't broke.

But I question the threadstarter's assertion that they're not a consumerist society. They're one of the biggest electricity users per capita. All of the top electricity users per capita countries are also the highest rated for happiness. Coincidence? No, people are happy when they've got lots of technological creature comforts. And their nerd toys are not subsidized by the gubment, to the best of my knowledge.

I live in Denmark and it´s a pretty nice place to stay....It would be perfect if there wasn´t so much anti-muslim sentiments, but you cant have it all right?

So say you make 1500 every 2 weeks, your telling me that i'm going to be taxed at least 750 off top? Half my check just gone like that! Is rent free in Denmark too? Are groceries half off every day? There has to be more to this. 50-75% in taxes is a lot of money. I know you get free healthcare and education, but how bout basic needs? Cost of living? You make 3,000 a month, but your only taking home half. 1500 a month to live on? That's the cost of a mortgage for most people in the States.

its a progressive income tax, so if youre making that tiny sum of money, youre not getting taxed nearly as much as you think

and with education free and a bunch of other stuff like healthcare already paid for, youd be just fine
