He didn't say it to be "mean" or "racist" he said it because in his own personal and traditional vocabulary: Nigger = Black. Their parents used the word, grandparents, etc, etc. It was no different from calling a chicken a bird, or a cat a pussy.

Period.

Nigger wasn't a "vitriol" word amongst whites until around the time we started making it clear that we didn't like the shit. So by that estimation there was only a small window in the 20th century where white folks used the word "nigger" exclusively to spite, offend, or anger black folks. Which was basically sometime between the civil rights movement and the emergence of Hip Hop...

Don't care what your opinion of the word is. My point is what it is. The word IS used and WAS used by white people out of pure ignorance. Not necessarily hate or vitriol. Period.
