Actually if you go overseas, they bump hip hop and they have more diversity over there. They still play jazz music over there, but as far as music created by blacks, it goes the way of blues, jazz, hip hop and r & b. We sell it to the mainstream then they take it and make it their own while pushing the originators by the wayside. It's happend in all genres of music, sad to say it but that's how it goes

We actually invented House music too, prolly some more shit jus can't think of it.

SMH @ this. How you gonna act like Blacks are so destitute they can't spend $10 on a cd, not even .99 on a single song? I would say something stereotypical like oh, we spend too much on rims and shit, but we all know that's bull. Plus, not all 12% of us are living in the ghetto (word to Jay and Oprah). And, are you insinuating that the other 88% of the country is white? There's like a billion other races here, and it's sad that out of all of them, we support our own culture the least. That is, according to your logic.

I think what he's saying is that we only make up 12% so of course there's a bigger chance that you'll see a white guy at a concert or some shit than a black guy. White people are the majority and like dude said income is another factor.

So even if everyone goes back to soul samples and "black" sounding music, it wouldn't matter, cuz niggas would still be garbage. So what's the point?

I'm so picky about music, it's damn near pitiful so all I can say is as long as the shit sounds good, but true just cuz we go back to samples it doesn't gurantee that it will sound good.

House music was just a evolution of soul and disco. And they kept it going and it's still gong strong. Here in CHicago they have a "House Music Picnic" in July, shit be off the chain

I can't really get into that Juggalo stuff you listen to but at least them cats are forming their own musical lane.

That big concert thing they do every year looks like fun if that's what you're into...

Yes it was, and we invented disco too, so why go to Africa like buddy said, when we invented our own things over here.

Yall looking for dope shit on radio/tv though the labels are gonna pick the softest shit as singles to promote..Like choosing garbage like Spacebound, Love The Way You as singles instead of Session One, Cold Wind Blows or Talking To Myself....

I dont know anyone destitute, that's your own misinterpretation.

I don't live in fantasy land, my CDs are posted in the Sticky thread and I paid for all of them.

Whites often make these sick and unfounded claims about Black people not supporting HipHop which is a blatant lie.

Black people are only 12% of the total US population and out of that 12% a large percentage don't even listen to HipHop music we listen to Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Funk, R&B and other Black musical art-forms.

Black people do not have as much disposable income as whites either.

If whites want to pretend they are the only ones who support HipHop then they are the reason why Soulja Boy and Wacka are rich and famous

And if you think about it, African music is soul, hip hop and house, it's all based on call and response. It was African music just with more things added. you got the beat and it makes you move. European music was never based off heavy drums and bass like African music.

The thing is, because of the internet and the way we share music, right now is the best time to be an independent artist and make exactly the type of music you want to make. It's just that the average human would rather be B.O.B. than Curren$y. They'd rather let a major label tell them to make poppy, crossover music so that they can have the chance to be rich and famous, rather than make what they want and not be as famous or rich. But, you really don't need a major label to make a living off of your music. People are touring off of mixtapes and digital EP's now.

Or, you can just use a major label as distribution like Odd Future is doing, and Cash Money and No Limit did back in the day. Would it be great if there was more balance in the mainstream? Of course. But, today, our options aren't limited to what TV and the Radio select for us. If you want great hip hop and more balance, you have to dig for it. It's there for you to find on the net, but again you have to look for it. I listen to both Dead Prez and Waka Flocka. They're telling different sides of our story and our reality, which is what this is all about. The problem is, they only play Waka on the radio, so -- I don't listen to the radio. But, if we want to see a change, we have to be more pro-active. Be honest, how many of us have ever called up our local radio station and requested that they play some underground artists?

The two bolded statements contradict themselves. How can we support hip hop, when we don't even listen to it? How many black people, or people in general, are like us, who buy cds? It may be music to those who don't listen, but it's more than that to us. And anyone who disagrees doesn't support real hip hop, and shouldn't have a problem with Skylar Grey singing on hooks, cuz it doesn't affect them.

And again, those numbers throw me off. Sure, the crowd, which on average holds 10,000, may looked a little racially skewed, but its not a big venue compared to how many people we have in the country. If a Jay Z were to perform in MSG, which holds about 20,000, what's stopping 10,000 black people from being there? It's fuckin Jay Z. If a Kanye West sells 2,000,000 albums by the end of the year, what stops 1,000,000 black people from putting aside $10 for the whole year to buy it? It's $10, not a car.

Now let's go down the rank. Pharoahe Monche sold under 10,000 copies of a dope album first week. Is it because he sucks? Or is it because we don't support indie labels? Meanwhile, on the other side of the spectrum, Flo Rida had two multiplatinum singles off an album that sold twice as much... on a major label. The labels know what time it is, they sell singles and shit on albums, and guess who buys the singles? White people. But is anyone gonna legit buy a Flo Rida album? Fuck no, cuz everyone knows he's trash. But the question is, why would Flo Rida and Monche sell relatively the same? Where's the singles sales for Monche? Who bought a Monche single? He had a song called Black Hand Side. Doesn't that cater to black people? out of the 38 million black people in the US, he couldn't get 1,000,000 to buy his shit? Not even 500,000? White people might not buy Monche, but neither do black people. And I bet a lot more white people have a Flo Rida cd than Monche.

Very, very true.

The Hip Hop music back then had a certain urgency that threatened the psyche of White America. The visuals, the lyrical output and the way it was delivered was shocking, rebellious and also spoke a message at the same time. And the funny thing about this it was getting mad play on the radios with all good-feeling/party Hip Hop songs as well.

On the radio you had "Fuck The Police" playing then "Me, Myself And I" would come on right after that, "C.R.E.A.M" would be the next joint, then a song like "Summertime" would pop right up, etc...you get the drift. That itself was the prime example of true balance. The execs at the record stations wanted a piece of that raw edged, street Hip Hop because they wanted to market it and make money off it but want it watered down and filtered to give to young White suburban teens who were fascinated by it, but their moms didn't allow them to buy the albums because they feared it and didn't want their kids to get influenced by it, due to the fact that it threatened their way of life.

Bruh, like H-Rap said, u can go see my CD collection on that album thread. You cant say I havent been supportive, but the general quality of music has degraded during the last 6 years and artists in each genre are suffering in terms of record sales.

And to say white people are the main supporters of hip hop is a strawman argument because white folks are the main supporters in all genres of music. And if whites were still buying hip hop records niggas would still be goin plat. Get ur mind right, white folks is downloading as much as we are
