Sad part is, all yall niggas complaining about hip hop changing don't even go out and buy records, go to shows, none of that. Yall talk about white people this, white people that, when they're the ones who support hip hop more than we do, whether you think it's real or not. And this has been going on for a long time. While we were complaining that Dre, Hammer and Snoop were fuckin up hip hop in the 90s, them white folks were buying the records, keeping the genre mainstream. And The Chronic was as "black" as it got musically. Who here bought Rakims last album? Who here even listened to it? There's like 5 10+ page threads on Lil Wayne, but crickets when Pharoahe Monch drops. SMH.

I agree with some of this. For the record, I'm a white guy myself.

The last hiphop concert I went to was KRS-ONE in my city. I passed on Lil Wayne because it would just be 10,000 screaming white teenaged girls like at a Justin Bieber concert. I was going to go to 'Rock the Bells' but I've already seen both Nas and Lauryn Hill in their glory years and the organization for the last 'Rock the Bells' in my city was poor (acts cancelled... someone threw a bottle at DJ Scratch so he refused to perform as Q-Tip's tour deejay, etc.) I tried my hardest to get into the Public Enemy concert but they were part of a VIP concert for a local radio station and 10,000 people showed up for a venue that held 3,000 and you can imagine the results.

Rakim's last album was disappointing. He had some nice lyrics and concepts but the production was horrible. He couldn't have at least hooked up with Primo again?

I'm always checking for artists like Pharoah Monche but, again, he went too experimental with some of his recent stuff. Not really feeling it.

I recently supported Kendrick Lamar by coppin' that 'Section 80' so if you make good shit, I'll buy it or watch your concert.

That's something I realized while making this thread, when the south really started to take ova around that time east coast dudes complained about how this ain't hip hop, but it was, thats just how most southern hip hop sounded even since the 80's we make party music, not even really party music, we just sound different, we are party people, yall jus wasn't used to being bombarded with our sound, thats hip hop to us, niggas got to realize its more than one type of hip hop just like its more than one style of rock music, but this new hip hop aint hip hop, its rapping over rock pop beats, it's not an African American sound, but now I think niggas bout to start realizing that shit was hip hop, the shit these rappers doin now though, No.

The 80s sound was influenced by Europe too. Remember Afrikaa Bambatta? See if this sample sounds familiar (yes, it was a sample, and yes, they were German)

Yeah, it's up to us to support the artists and sounds that we think aren't getting enough exposure by actually buying and sharing their music(not saying that the threadstarter isn't doing this).

Just because you grew up on a rapper in the 80's or 90's or he actually makes soulful hip hop doesn't mean that it sounds good, I bought WTT off the strength of "Otis" cuz it's not only soulful, but it sounds good, I ain't even know Pharoe Monch or Rakim dropped an album, maybe that's that problem.

And people forget that one of the first superproducers and hip hop label owners was a white guy (Rubin). People also forgot that Run DMC made a song (a cover, at that) with these guys

Aerosmith.jpg

Nigga i'll take Aerosmith, Kiss, Nirvana, Pantera, Beastie Boys, Vanilla Ice, Dio, Motley Crue, and Rick Rubin over any of this emo hip hop that came out this year, I aint here to discredit white people, and them shits was just that a crossover, this shit today is labeled as hip hop, it's not, run-dmc called they self the kings of rock, they was rock-rap if you ask me and ill take that over todays shit, and all rick rubin shit sound like rock music, plus them niggas aint even invent hip hop.

Hip hop evolved you can't expect it to sound like the 90's forever. My only problems with hip hop is the lack of balance on the radio and television.

The cracka might want you to believe that Black folks don't support HipHop but that's a blatant lie.

How much support are we supposed to give when we are only 12% of the population with less disposable income than whites who are the majority consumers of rap music?

But back on topic:

The dilution of the music is based on the personal musical taste of the majority consumers who are white kids that listen to Techno before they listen to Neo-Soul.....it's business...alot of the music is being marketed towards whites which I why the new gimmick is to put a token white artist on your album like JayZ, Game, Kanye, B.O.B, Nicky Minaj....it's blatant.

However there is plenty of unfiltered HipHop in the underground.

Mainstream hiphop is wack now, the same cats that made hot music in the 90's and early 2000's still droping E.P's, L.P's and street singles, and mixtapes, the differences is that them niggaz is ass cheeks right now, heard that Murda feat. cam, vado, styles p,kiss, and cam. that shit is wack but ask them niggaz and they'd say they bodied that shit. theres gonna be no hope till the new crop of emcees get some season in em...thats what is its right now, i suggest you buy as much 90's Redman, Wu, Mobb Deep, Cash Money, No limiit,Pac, Biggy and on and on as you can get and wait out his gay storm going on right now

Thank you, cuz that whole support real hip hop argument is invalid, cuz these niggas be mega trash.

Actually if you go overseas, they bump hip hop and they have more diversity over there. They still play jazz music over there, but as far as music created by blacks, it goes the way of blues, jazz, hip hop and r & b. We sell it to the mainstream then they take it and make it their own while pushing the originators by the wayside. It's happend in all genres of music, sad to say it but that's how it goes

SMH @ this. How you gonna act like Blacks are so destitute they can't spend $10 on a cd, not even .99 on a single song? I would say something stereotypical like oh, we spend too much on rims and shit, but we all know that's bull. Plus, not all 12% of us are living in the ghetto (word to Jay and Oprah). And, are you insinuating that the other 88% of the country is white? There's like a billion other races here, and it's sad that out of all of them, we support our own culture the least. That is, according to your logic.

i kinda agree. All that shit like Dr. Dre's 'I need a doctor' and white girls doing all Lupe's hooks does suck. also happy to see Otis be the single off WTT. some evolution is cool, but i like rap that is unmistakably rap.

On some real shit The label exects castrated all music. When Punk and Hip Hop came out nobody liked the fact these dudes were doing shit grass roots and weren't relying on big ass recording booths and making stadium music. That shit scared the industry you had a bunch of broke hispanic, black and white kids taking control of their music and empowering themselves.Shit was too raw for them when young people use their raw energy towards something they are unstoppable .Thing is they realized if they can't contain it they can filter it.Rap and Punk are damn near brother genres both emphasis different parts of youth and social struggles.Thats why they started making hair bands and glam bands in the 80s to filter out that sound.Thats what damaged punk rock and attempted to delegitmatize it by making it over the top and cartoonish. With Hip hop they are doing the same thing by throwing silly ass niggas like Lil Wayne and kanye out .Niggas who try to be so over the top they are more of a personality than they are musicians.Rap is getting ripped apart so it can be easy to digest and manufacture. We letting muthafuckas like KReayshawn and V nasty loose instead of closing the door.Only way niggas is gonna get rap back to normal is by supporting your locals buying albums making labels being promoters and doing this shit grass roots style. We create the talent here labels dont

And that Game is decent, I could listen to it.

Them tracks don't even match.

So even if everyone goes back to soul samples and "black" sounding music, it wouldn't matter, cuz niggas would still be garbage. So what's the point?
