Yall talk about white people this, white people that, when they're the ones who support hip hop more than we do, whether you think it's real or not. And this has been going on for a long time. While we were complaining that Dre, Hammer and Snoop were fuckin up hip hop in the 90s, them white folks were buying the records, keeping the genre mainstream. And The Chronic was as "black" as it got musically. Who here bought Rakims last album? Who here even listened to it? There's like 5 10+ page threads on Lil Wayne, but crickets when Pharoahe Monch drops. SMH.
I agree with some of this. For the record, I'm a white guy myself.
The last hiphop concert I went to was KRS-ONE in my city. I passed on Lil Wayne because it would just be 10,000 screaming white teenaged girls like at a Justin Bieber concert. I was going to go to 'Rock the Bells' but I've already seen both Nas and Lauryn Hill in their glory years and the organization for the last 'Rock the Bells' in my city was poor (acts cancelled... someone threw a bottle at DJ Scratch so he refused to perform as Q-Tip's tour deejay, etc.) I tried my hardest to get into the Public Enemy concert but they were part of a VIP concert for a local radio station and 10,000 people showed up for a venue that held 3,000 and you can imagine the results.
Rakim's last album was disappointing. He had some nice lyrics and concepts but the production was horrible. He couldn't have at least hooked up with Primo again?
I'm always checking for artists like Pharoah Monche but, again, he went too experimental with some of his recent stuff. Not really feeling it.
I recently supported Kendrick Lamar by coppin' that 'Section 80' so if you make good shit, I'll buy it or watch your concert.
