Police union president says Gardens PD is not being transparent about Corey Jones shooting

The president of the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association is upset with Palm Beach Gardens Police leaders after he says they are not being transparent enough about the shooting of Corey Jones.

Union President John Kazanjian says Palm Beach Gardens officers are receiving death threats in the wake of the Corey Jones shooting.

And Kazanjian partly blames the Gardens police chief for not doing interviews and being transparent.

"We don't want another Ferguson. They need to get out there and address the public...chief, get out there and tell the public what is going on," Kazanjian said.

Police have declined to do any interviews since the officer shot Jones on Sunday morning.

Palm Beach Gardens Police said in a news release that an unmarked officer shot and killed Jones early Sunday morning along Interstate 95. The officer, identified as Nouman Raja, just started with the department earlier this year and was in plain clothes.

"For him just to be gunned down like that...it really hurts. My nephew was just broken down on the side of the road," Jones' uncle Frederick Banks said.

Corey Jones' family members say they have also not been able to get information from the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department.

The Palm Beach Gardens police spokeswoman has not returned calls for comment Tuesday morning about the union president's statement.

So when we gon start killing random crackas

So the answer to an innocent man being murdered is to go and kill more innocent men? why do it random? is it because you ain't got the balls to step to the cop in question, so instead attack a random person like a coward instead?

This the same clown that thinks dinosaurs is a mind control tool

Corey Jones shooting: Police union blasts Gardens PD for lack of details

The head of the county’s largest police union blasted Palm Beach Gardens police leadership today for their silence over the Sunday killing of drummer Corey Jones as the story gains national attention.

John Kazanjian, president of the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association, said officer Nouman Raja, who killed Jones after the man’s car broke down on a freeway off-ramp, has been getting death threats.

“Them being silent is causing inferences to be made about one of our officers. They need to come out and be transparent,” Kazanjian said. “I don’t know what they’re doing. I really don’t know.”

Palm Beach Gardens officials have said nothing since releasing a brief statement Monday, even as national media have latched on to the story, the latest killing of a young black man by a police officer.

Jones’ family today hired noted Tallahassee-based civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, who represented the family of Trayvon Martin, the man killed on Feb. 26, 2012 by George Zimmerman. Crump also represented the family of Michael Brown, an 18-year-old African-American man killed last year in Ferguson, Mo.

Jones was shot to death by Raja 3:15 a.m., Sunday after his vehicle broke down on the Interstate 95 southbound exit ramp to PGA Boulevard. Jones, a drummer for a church and a band, was driving back from a gig in Jupiter, friends said.

Raja, who was not in uniform and was driving an unmarked vehicle, was on duty working surveillance when he confronted Jones, police said. According to a source with knowledge of the incident, Jones possibly didn’t know Raja was an officer.

There has been massive outpouring for Jones, 31, a drummer in the band Future Prezidents who was the son of a minister and grandson of a bishop. He worked for eight years as an inspector at the Delray Beach Housing Authority. His only run-in with the law in Florida is a 2007 arrest in Miami Beach on a charge of carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a concealed weapon, charges that prosecutors didn’t pursue.

His brother is C.J. Jones, a former NFL player, and both men were close friends of current NFL nose tackle Vince Wilfork.

Wilfork, who played for the New England Patriots for 11 years before signing with the Houston Texans this year, commented on Corey Jones’ death on Twitter this morning, saying he knew Corey Jones all his life as a “stand up guy.”

Wilfork, who played for the University of Miami before he was drafted in 2004, graduated from Santaluces High School in Boynton Beach, Corey Jones’ alma mater, family members told The Palm Beach Post. Corey Jones also played football at Santaluces.

Raja, 38, has been an officer since 2008. He started his career at the tiny Atlantis Police Department, which patrols just 1,200 homes.

He’s also an adjunct instructor at Palm Beach State College, the county’s main police academy. He’s scheduled to teach four classes this fall, including “Interactions in a Diverse Community.”

Kazanjian said Raja is “hanging in there” despite getting death threats.

Corey Jones’ family releases statement through attorney

The office of civil rights attorney Benjamin L. Crump and Daryl D. Parks has released a statement confirming they have been hired by the family of Corey Jones. Kweku Darfoor of Fort Lauderdale and Skinner Louis of Orlando are also part of the Jones family’s legal team, the statement said.

The Jones family released the following statement through the attorneys’ office:

“Our family would like to thank all of those who have reached out in support regarding the tragic death of our beloved Corey.

“Corey Jones was a God-fearing man who dedicated his life to doing the right thing. He lived every moment to the fullest and was an inspiration to many; the kind of son, brother and friend people could only hope for.

“Rest assured, we are working diligently with our legal team to determine exactly why this plainclothes police officer in an unmarked car would approach Corey.

“We will never forget Corey. We are hopeful that the memory of his smiling face will give us strength during this incredibly difficult time.”

PBG Police: Jones purchased gun 3 days before shooting

Corey Jones purchased a gun only three days before he was killed by a Palm Beach Gardens police officer Sunday, according to Palm Beach Gardens Police Chief Stephen Stepp.

In a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Stepp said that Jones’ gun was found on the ground outside the vehicle of his car. The gun box matching the serial number was found inside the car.

Stepp said detectives located paperwork showing Jones’ recent purchase of the gun.

Other than that information, Stepp did not release many other details about the incident, instead saying that the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is handling the independent investigation.

“As is our protocol, the Sheriff’s office is conducting an independent investigation using their vast resources,” Stepp said. “Therefore, our knowledge of the exact circumstances of the case are limited. It would be premature for us to speculate on the facts of the case.”

Stepp offered condolences to the family of Jones, 31, who was shot to death by Nouman Raja 3:15 a.m., Sunday after his vehicle broke down on the Interstate 95 southbound exit ramp to PGA Boulevard. Jones, a drummer for a church and a band, was driving back from a gig in Jupiter, friends said.

“His is a tragic loss of life that affects us all,” Stepp said. “I firmly believe that the family deserves answers.”

Stepp said there was no dash cam in Raja’s vehicle because there are only dash cams in traffic DUI vehicles, according to the city. Palm Beach Gardens Police does not use body cameras.

Stepp said he has been reaching out to the Jones family, but has been unable to meet with them.

Sylvester Banks Sr., the grandfather of Corey Jones, watched the news conference from their church in Boynton Beach.

“I cannot explain it, I cannot understand it. Corey’s record on his job shows what kind of person he is. A life is very valuable. God will bring it to justice. We are pleading to you for help for our family,” Banks said. “I would hope that would come out of this is the truth. The truth will be revealed and that will help citizens across the nation and around the world.”

the war is already at hand

We should probably be the ones wearing bodycams that update instantly to the cloud so that the evidence isn't erased by the cops.

Even then it probably wont help.

The media spins shit however they want and people are dumb enough to believe everything the media says.

The PBC department says they are "waiting" for all the "facts" to come out....

But when a black man is accused of a murder and a "witness" says it was him then the "facts" are all of a sudden irrelevant. They say they got their guy and throw him under the jail.

It does NOT take this long for facts to come out.

I know the war has started already, but it's one sided as fuck,

instead of getting at the officers/people that are committing these murders,

all we are doing is signing petitions, and marching/protesting..

The police kill Sandra Bland
- black people march

White supremacist kid walks into a "historical" black church and murder 7 people- black people march

Police kill a twelve year old black kid- black people march

SMH..

They've killed MANY black men, women, and children

and all we have to show for it is some burning candles and a march..

This is a one sided war and we are getting slaughtered !!!

Fuck all that marching shit. You ain't gotta kill a cracka or a cop but you sure can beat the shit out of him and put the fear of God in him

Exclusive: Source details officer's account of fatal shooting | Local News - Home

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -

Early Sunday morning, a Palm Beach Gardens police officer shot and killed Corey Jones.

Jones' car had broken down on the PGA Boulevard exit ramp.

According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office source who can’t comment publicly, the account Palm Beach Gardens officer Nouman Raja told investigators is that Jones pulled a gun on him as soon as Raja approached him on the exit ramp from I-95 and said, “Police. Man, are you alright?”

Raja said he then fired two to three shots at Jones, who was standing behind his open driver’s side door. He said Jones then took off running.

Raja told investigators he was tracking Jones as he ran, and saw him make it to the guardrail west of the car, about 30 feet away.

The source said Raja said he could see the flickering silver of a laser on Jones’ gun, and that’s when he took aim and fired two more times.

Raja was working an undercover surveillance detail on burgled cars, and pulled up to Jones in a white unmarked passenger van, perpendicular to the front of Jones’ car.

He was wearing jeans, a tan T-shirt and a ball cap. He did not have his duty gun on him, but a smaller, back-up Glock in a front holster. The duty gun was in the van.

The source said Raja told detectives Jones was standing, and Jones immediately said, “I’m okay.”

Raja said he then identified himself as police, and that’s when Jones pulled out his gun, and Raja immediately shot at him.

Raja had left his police radio in the van, and called 911 on his cell phone as he tracked Jones running away.

According to the source, evidence technicians found five casings from Raja’s Glock 40 at the scene.

They also found a Jimenez Arms 380 semi-automatic pistol, with six live rounds in the magazine, which apparently belonged to Jones.

The Palm Beach Gardens Police issued a statement Monday that said Jones suddenly confronted Raja with a gun, and that’s when Raja fired.

The Jones family issued the following statement Tuesday:

“Our family would like to thank all of those who have reached out in support regarding the tragic death of our beloved Corey. I'm pretty sure they'll dig his background and find something to paint him as the ruthless aggressor to justify his murder, like an unpaid parking ticket from 10 years ago or tardiness in elementary school.

Don't they always do that
