Dont need to be a CPA to know that half of yours is theirs once you making millions. Pay your shit in installments, freedom is the better than any chain, real estate that you bought with their $

I know right, like how many emcees and industry cats lost their shit in the forty years of hip hops existence.

And cats still spend mad dough on jewels, whips and shit like that.

So much for a carefree summer ... Fat Joe has just been ordered to spend 4 months behind bars for failing to pay more than $1 MILLION in income taxes. As TMZ previously reported, Joe (real name Joseph Cartagena) pled guilty back in December to stiffing Uncle Sam on a boatload of taxes for the years 2007 and 2008.He originally faced up to two years in the slammer for the crime -- but today, the rapper was sentenced to just 4 months in prison, a $15,000 fine, and one-year supervised release. He's scheduled to report to prison by August 26.Not so bad all things considered.

SMMFH rappers need to find better financial advisors, niggas should NOT be going to jail for shit like this. You know what it is tho ? A lot of these clubs pay rappers in cash to do a show, and when they report it on their books for their taxes the IRS knows what went where, rappers on the other hand think that b/c they get it in cash it's not 'taxable' SMMFH. Another thing too is that rappers who live in certain states and tour another think that if they live in Florida & make 100k in NY it's subject to Florida tax laws - nope. If you live in Florida and you make 100k in NY you got to report to both districts (& if memory serves me you have to pay the State of NY taxes too). Of course it depends on what exactly it is you do to earn your money but this is a very common issue many athletes and entertainers get in trouble with and should not be.

This is some bullshit, Joe shouldn't have been hemmed up for something so petty like this. Somebody on his team dropped the ball.

My best friends Father in law is facing similar charges.. These fake ass accountants always act like they can save you some cash by using some obscure loop hole.. The IRS doesnt pay attention for years.. Then when they catch it.. You owe dough. If you dont have it to pay you get fined.. They sieze assets and throw you in jail... SOme bullshit if you ask me.. The accountant is never liable.. SMH

Summed up lawyers and accountants well.

I cosigned you. But I bolded a part that needs to be corrected. Here's the dirty part. A tour manager that's acting as an agent for the rapper negotiates $15,000 for a New York rapper to do a show in Florida. The tour manager turns around and asks the rapper if he's willing to do a show in Florida for $10,000. The rapper says 'sure I'll do a show in Florida for $10,000'. So the rapper does the show, the promoter gives the agent/manager $15,000, the agent/manager turns around and gives the rapper $10,000.

So the Florida promoter reports on the books that he paid the New York rapper $15,000. In actuality, the New York rapper only recieved $10,000 and doesn't know there was another $5,000 that he didn't get. A couple of years go by and theNew York rapper doesn't even remember the show or how much he got paid. And like you said, a rapper can perform in all 50 states and has to keep accurate tax records in each state. Its not that the New York rapper is consciously trying to defraud the government but it gets really complicated and its even more complicated when you have an agent/manager thats skimming from the top and hiding money from you. According to the IRS you got paid $15,000 for the show in Florida and you only reported getting $10,000. Its 5 years later, got any reciepts?
