This woulda been all the rage 20 years ago

Yeah I remember the hype for the 18th Letter album, but somebody dropped the ball. Puff Daddy should have produced 2 or 3 tracks on that album.

That album was dope as fuck and well received back then. It went gold (which was still a credible certification in 1997) and everything. I don't know what you're talking about. The Master on the other hand...

The 18th Letter was 3.5 mics IMO. It was too "keep it real" while Puff, Biggie and Ma$e were burning up the airwaves and shutting down nightclubs. The 18th Letter didn't have any club bangers... or radio singles.

As far as The Master is concerned, I only liked the two Premiere tracks.

Are you kidding. Nothing would've sounded more out of place than Rakim over them extra polished disco and r&b loops that Puffy's team was rocking with. Sticking with Clark Kent, Premo and Pete Rock was smart.

They create the type of backdrop Rakim easily blends in with. Also that album wasn't made for radio singles. It was a comeback catered to the ears of the street.

C'mon.

Puffy had 1997 on lock. Everything he touched was a #1 hit. Thats exactly what Rakim needed. Not those backpacker beats that he ended up with.

Just think of what Puff did for Biggie. He could have done the same thing with Rakim.

Rakim didn't need that though. It's better than he stayed true to form.

Wtf The R look like rhyming over a disco beat or diddy boppin in a shiny suit??? Fohwtbs. We are talking about Rakim Allah aka the God mc aka aka the BEST TO EVER DO IT. He was dropping knowledge and revolutionizing the game when bitch ass puffy was still washing Andre Harrell's car. The basic premise of trying to turn the R into a crossover pop hop rapper is disrespectful as fuck. Rakim IS NOT mase. If you dont understand that you dont understand hip hop. KYS if you disagree.

Guess Who's Back was the lead single for the album. The video played on Rap City and everything.

But I thought Rakim made all the beats anyway. What's the point of Eric B?

Nah he didn't

But he produced more then people might expect from him.
