so now it's about who was bigger now now u switching your agrument up u said he wasn't famous i proved that he was famous now u saying there were bigger artist out there make up your mind.

Man go and look back at everything I wrote. Nobody in here can't tell me that Pac didn't become recognized or famous outside of Rap until 93. Going gold and being in a movie proves nothing. Being arrested and mentioned by the Vice President who was considered an Idiot say nothing either... The fact remains Pac became famous after starring in Poetic Justice and getting in all that trouble in 93 period....

I'm listening to your argument in regards to Biggie not being mentioned on a national stage as much as Pac. You are correct, Pac was more famous, but I would have to disagree that Biggie did not become a Legend until he died. I'm not sure if you guys just read through past history or actually lived it. Now back in the early 90's before the advent of mass internet in every household popularity was garnered a couple of ways, One being word of mouth. The hip hop community being much closer knit at the time, The Dj's played a vital role for establishing artist. Provided that "Sean Combs" was in Biggies corner, Every DJ in all areas had wind of Biggie. Puff had the machine behind him. Was Big talented? Of course he was but that "machine" pushed him to the front of the pack out of NY rappers at the time. I was living in NYC and anyone old enough to be in the scene would agree with me... I remember hearing a Big L mixtape and I wish I still had it, but it had Big L flowing on that "One more chance" sample I think it's an sample of El Debarge. It started to catch a little buzz, next thing you know, Biggie had the same sample much more cleaner and more friendly for the radio. All the Dj's got it and L's version was gone.. I say that to say, Big had someone well known in the hip hop community crafting his career it's foolish to think that he was not going to rise to the top with his talent.

As far as Pac goes, let's be clear, Pac was not well known in other circles for his music at the time but for the extra curricular that was going on . Pac gained nationally attention when one of the most popular pop artist at the time "Janet Jackson" refused to be in a film with him "Poetic Justice" unless he had an Aids test. This was not to far from the time that Magic came out that he had the Monster. That publicity gave Pac light. I believe that same year Pac was arrested for shooting two off duty police officers in Atlanta. The news caught wind and all hell broke loose. They started doing background checks on the cat and it was confirmed that his Mother was part of the Black Panthers and so forth and it created in image of Pac that became menacing to "White folk". He actually got off on the charges with the Cops but ended up getting caught with another charge of Rape. All this happened within a year and a half to two year span... So once again I say all that to say Pac was not known in outside circles for his music but for his extracurriculars... That's the only difference between the two homeboy... I can't see you refuting this...

This is my first post... How has it changed...? I said Pac was famous but not outside of rap circles until 93.... Spin what... Nothing has changed

Peace family, here is the heart of the matter with the subject of "Uncle Toms, Sellouts and Neo-Colonialist" Jalen Rose spoke of in his comment about certain Black people.

The dysfunctional Ghetto/Street Black person is a product of centuries of spiritual, mental and physical oppression, exploitation and domination of Black people by White people since they invaded Africa; killed countless African men, women and children; destroyed and disrupted the development of countless African civilizations; colonized Africa; enslaved us and brought us to “America.” These images and ideas of Black Womanhood and Manhood are not products of Black people’s free and self-determined ability to define our individually or collective reality. The Black people who speak and act “Ghetto or Street” are only acting out what white people have conditioned them to speak and act towards themselves and other Black people. If you travel to other parts of the world where white people have invaded the homelands of people and oppress them as they do Black people, you will see the same or similar behavior by those oppressed and exploited people as well.

The exact polar opposite and equally as dysfunctional Black person is the Black person who has assimilated into mainstream America with a diminished, devalued and distorted idea of Africa, Black life and cultures. They don’t know (or want to know) anything about the true history and struggles of Black people in America, Africa or anywhere else in the Black Diaspora, because it has no value in their hearts and minds. They will believe any out-right lie or half-truth white people tells them about their injustices against Black people and other people of color because it clears their conscious and frees them from any personal responsibility to elevate or improve our collective condition.

They have consciously embraced white folks intentional lies and deceits that their “Blackness (African heritage)” is just the color of our skin and has no spiritual, mental or physical cultural reality associated with it. They think that if Black people think, speak and act like white people with no actionable sense of personal or collective responsibility to each other, that is what being African-American or Black is.

They’re sense of value and importance is based on how well they think, speak and act like white people and serve their communities, institutions and countries. Not honoring, respecting or carrying on the struggle of Black people who have fought and died for them to live the lives they enjoy today. They give credit for the lives they live and enjoy today to the very same white people, institutions, communities and countries their ancestors fought and struggled against. They don’t help build or maintain positive and productive Black marriages, families, communities, businesses or social institutions.

They think that white people’s money, wealth and/or recognition validate them and the lives they have chosen to lead! When those are the very things white people use to get them to become co-conspirators in the systematic degradation, genocide and self-destruction of Africa, Black life and cultures. They tend to only want to acknowledge White oppression, exploitation or domination of Black people when them or their loved ones have something to gain, or have been personally victimized by white people in some way. So in actuality they only have an exploitive connection to their Blackness and/or Black people.

That is what Jalen Rose and other Black people are speaking of when they are speaking of our so called “best and brightest” Black people who assimilate into mainstream “American/Western/European/White” institutions, communities and cultures instead of helping our people free ourselves from their oppression, exploitation and domination and developed truly self-determined cultural realities for Black people in America, Africa and throughout the African/Black Diaspora!

So if we are going to acknowledge and ridicule the existence of the so-called Ghetto/Street Black person (and we all do) as not being representative of “who we are or should be” as African/Black people. Then we have to acknowledge the ridicule the detrimental effect assimilated (aka Sellout, Uncle Tom, Neo-colonialist, etc.) Black people have had and continue to have to our collective existence as an African people.
