Believe it or not the world is more at peace then it has ever been. Open a history book. The natural disasters are worse because people have populated those areas. TB used to kill thousands or people (and still is in some cases). Fact is people live longer nowadays because of new medicines and treatments. Hitler is no different then Khan who killed 2 million plus, King David, the Roman emperors, Alexander, and many others.

You call this peace? Wow. Lord Jesus help us.

"There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked." Isaiah 57:21

How can you say the world is at peace more than it ever has been, when the country that we live in is currently involved in 2 major conflicts? It may be peaceful here in America, but tell that to the people who live in war zones. Come on brother, broaden your perspective.

How can you compare Khan, King David, and Alexander to the man who started World War 2? Are you serious?

How can anything not be about evidence? Anybody can say 'God said'. There are a number of text, some older, that claim that 'God said'. What makes us human is our ability to look at these text and to evaluate their truthfulness based upon all the evidence available.

Science is simply a formalized process of human reasoning. Science is a tool to be used, not something to be 'believed'. Scientific reasoning and scientific theories are just formalized processes of reasoning that tend to be more reliable than simple opinions or unfounded beliefs. This isn't a matter of saying 'do I believe science or do I believe the Bible'. At the heart of this is, which argument is more persuasive?

Isn't looking at present day events and comparing them to what the Bible said a form of reasoning? It isn't like Christians have rejected reasoning and logic. What's happened is that all reasoning and logic that are not beneficial to their beliefs are rejected or ignored. This is fundamentally dishonest. It is the worst case of intellectual dishonesty that can exist.

If I question the authenticity of the Bible using sound evidence and reasoning, I would expect some sort of persuasive answer or reasoning to demonstrate how or why the Bible is right. Quoting the Bible to prove the Bible is right is a tautology. The Bible is right because it says so in Job (or any other place in the Bible) is unsound and not persuasive. If a scientific theory quoted itself to prove itself, it would be quickly rejected and not taken seriously.

Is science just merely a tool used for reasoning? It would be nice to think that guns are merely to make hunting animals easier, but that is not the case. As far as I can see it, science is as much a faith than a tool for reasoning. Science is a deity to some people and people stake their very lives on it. The mentality is that if science can't prove it, then it can't be.

Again, it's not necessarily about the evidence. It's about the mentality towards the evidence (or lack thereof) as well.

1. Your are dumb. I did not say it was at peace, I said there was more peace on earth right now then in history.

2. Your right, they were probably worse. The killed hundreds or thousands if not millions, had and tortured slaves, raped and savaged women, killed children. They killed more people then Hitler could dream of.

To Khan, Alexander, and the Roman Emperors. Those were "World Wars" to them. They had no clue about the western hemisphere. They too wanted to control and dominate the world as they understood it to be. that's why they're comparable to hitler. Ever hear of the great crusades. The plague killed millions in dark ages. Ask the Irish about the potatoe famine. Smallpox killed thousands when the settlers came to this continent. They too thought they were in the last days. When I bring up Nostradamus to my sister who's a devout christian she says he couldnt have been a prophet because he alledgedly dabbled in the black arts. Witchcraft, astrology etc. Last days my ***. That's just manipulation using fear tactics. Which if you peep game, they're using now with the whole organic food market. If you don't eat organic you're more susceptible to illnesses.

This thread is stupid...

Other planets (and moons) don't experience earthquakes quite the same way we do on earth; our quakes are generated by plates, resembling pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, that slide past, collide with or separate from other plates that make up the continents and ocean floor. However, Apollo astronauts did detect "moon quakes" on the moon. The planet Mars has huge volcanoes; for example, Olympus Mons is 70,000' high (and we think Mount Rainier is big!) and also deep canyons...both of which suggest some level of quake activity. Finally, the Jovian moon Europa is covered with cracked ice; that suggests "quakes" generated by the tidal pull of the planet Jupiter. My thanks to University of Washington astronomer Don Brownlee for his guidance!

Although they wouldnt be called "earthquakes" other planets have seismic activity due ti gravitational pulls from other planets and the sun

You've presented no evidence. And you continue to duck and dodge the question posed by telling me non-sense. If you can't answer the question just admit it. I find it strange that you can tell me how old the earth is, but yet you can't even tell me where you were when it was founded? I mean where is the logic in this? You can sit here and tell me that the earth is "this many million years old", but yet you have no idea where you were when the earth was formed! LOL. It's absolutely laughable. One scientist looks at a rock and says, "well this rock seems to be this many million years old, so I guess the earth must be this many years old", and then another scientist will look at the same rock and say " well this rock seems to be this many thousand years old, so I guess the earth must be this old" and then you come along and eat up what ever hypothesis sounds better and fits into your world view. Come on brother, who are you fooling? Your not pulling the wool over my eyes and your DEFINITELY not pulling the wool over the Lords eyes. Your issue isn't with this non-sense, the real issue is your heart. You don't want to turn to the living and true God because you want to live how you want to live. The passing pleasures of sin are more enjoyable to you than fellowship with the God of this universe. You see lets get down to where the rubber meets the road my brother. You don't want to give up the sin in your life because you want to be the captain of your own ship. Let's get real here friend. Stop trying to front with all this non-sense your talking about. The issue resides in your heart brother. Thats where all the issues of life come from. Now until you are WILLING to invite the Lord into your heart and life and have Him take up residence in it, you will continue to suppress the truth with unrighteousness. And in so doing, your storing up wrath for yourself because the judgement of God still abides on you. Turn to Jesus Christ my brother and stop faking the funk. You need Christ. You need life. You need healing. You can be all macho and intellectual towards me on the computer screen, but it's only you who has to face the man in the mirror day in and day out. Are you going to continue to lie to your ownself whenever you look at him in the mirror? Get real with your self and examine yourself. God has life in His hand and He wants to give it to you. Take it today my friend and be healed.

You seem to think more of your question than I do. I wasn't avoiding your question, I just figured it to be a rhetorical question since answering it added nothing to the conversation. Obviously I wasn't in existence when the earth was formed. Nor was I in existence when FDR passed the new deal, or when the JFK was shot, or when the Vietnam war was being fought.

I'm going to assume that you were weren't around either.

All of this just brings us back to the same point that I've been making all along. Since neither of us was around, how do we best determine what happened? Clearly, from your perspective, you think the Bible explains it all. I've been generous in my assessment of your arguments. I haven't said anything about how you live your life other than that your reasoning is deeply flawed. The reason why I reject the Bible is because of the more than ample evidence that shows its impossibility. Not because I hate God or want to be a sinner. I love knowledge. It is my desire to be right that causes me to reject Christianity.

You keep pointing to the Bible as the source of your knoweldge yet you do nothing to convince me that the Bible is objectively true. You quote scripture from the Bible as if quoting scripture from the Bible is somehow more authorative than quoting from the Book of Mormon or the Book of the Dead. It's not.

It is easy for me to look in the mirror, because I know that I am using all the faculties available to me evaluate information without bias. I was raised a Christian, the son of baptist pastor, and studied Christianity in private schools for most of my life. I 'accepted' Jesus as my 'savior' at the age of 10. I did missiionary for about 5 years. This isn't a matter of me rejecting Christianity because I don't know anything about it. I knowingly reject it because it is internally inconsistent (theologically inconsistent) and externally impossible.

The reason why I appeal to your logic and reason is because maybe I can learn something from you. You aren't going to convince me by taking one or two verses out of context and tossing them down surronded by your version of god's word. Ultimately what you are doing is making an argument, throwing in a scripture verse, and then acting as if your argument is somehow divine or divinely inspired. It's not. It's boring. Appealing to my emotion as if I'm a joyless being desperately seeking God's grace is boring too.

So you weren't in existence when the earth was formed, but yet you believe that scientist (who weren't around either) can pick up some rocks, look at them, and tell us the age of the earth? if that's not the most stupidest thing (next to evolution) I have ever heard, what is?

You say you come from a household that raised you in the way that you should go. Well if thats the case I believe God and His word. He tell us in proverbs 22:6, "train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
Right now you are a lost sheep my brother. All of us have gone astray from the sheperd at some point in our lives. But God is a faithful shepherd and He promises that He will never let one of His sheep get away. If God starts out with 100 sheep, then He will return with 100 sheep. He will not lose one if you truly belong to Him. Your just searching for answers my brother and if your quest is for truth, than that road will ultimately lead back to your roots. John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one can come to the Father except through me."

You belong to the Lord my brother. Thats why the Lord has guided your footsteps to this message board. He wants you to be reconciled with Him again. I believe the process has already begun. God bless.

The fact that you clearly don't understand radiometric dating, half-lives, or isotopes and implicitly call it one of the stupidist thing that you have ever heard of only belies your own ignorance. I doubt you know much about semi-conductors, binary logic, or what a phanatron is...yet you login in to all hip hop and use the internet freely, something that would not exist without these scientific advancements. Radiometric dating is a principle of electromagneticism, which is used every day. Next time you get a X-ray I want you to tell the doc that x-rays are most foolish things you ever heard of.

You are so quick to promote your own righteousness by way of condemning me that you are incapable of reasonable discourse without delving into some mindless proselytizing. You sneer at science as if it were the occult but fail to realize what science truly is...even after I explained it (a tool to be use to evaluate our environment). What? Did God create the internet right after he created penicillin and right before he created cell phones?

One of the principle reasons why I engage you in conversation is because through your post you have come to represent the superstition that plagues many black communities. I have heard many black pastors with no more than a their own rudimentary understanding deliver the sort of evangelicalism that you so 'lovingly' have showered upon me. No understanding of the world that we live in, only your Bible to guide you. And many people just soak this foolishness up. Martin Luther would be rolling over in his grave if he knew what became of his Protestant Revolution.

LOL @ radiometric dating. If it was accurate the age of the earth would be indisputable. It's a well known fact that radiometric dating procedures don't provide consistent absolute dates. So you can miss me with that my friend. Your trusting in a folk tales brother. I must say though you have great faith Phanatron! Your placing your faith in a method, that uses a flawed dating/device system, which tells you something that supposedly happened millions of years ago, but yet the person using that method can't even tell you where he/she was at 100 years ago? LOL. Talk about faith. It never ceases to amaze me how far people will reach in order to stay out of the light. It's absolutely ridiculous and yet amazing at the same time.

The world will end because of the Bible. It will be because people will abuse the power that a book of morals stands for. Use the book for the knowledge. It was created by rich men to tell the poor man there is heaven if you work like a slave for me so I can be richer. Think of it like this. Greek mythology was religion thousands of years ago. Do people really think that there is a group of Gods today and each one has a specific task. No, because Ancient Greece is no more. In 2000 years, Christianity will fall to same fate and possibly to something like Scientology which we laugh at today will be the main religion. To say God is the reason for earthquakes shows that your education level is not up to par with what it should be. Earthquakes are in abundance today is because the movement below us. It is like the offensive and defensive lines in a football game. They do not play just one play and call it a day. Shit takes time, so until their game is over, we have to weather the storm.

The manner in which these earthquakes happen is more the issue than the cause of earthquakes. They happened weeks after each other. Are there more to come in the weeks ahead? If so, is there any parallel to that and the "end times", or can it be dismissed?

Actually there have been 8 earthquakes so far this year. 23 last year, about 30 in 2008. Those are notable ones but in fact millions of earthquakes happen each year. ABout 50,000 a day.

Chile and Haiti are well known places. Those earthquakes could have happened anywhere else and it not get the type of coverage that those two are getting. Why those two? Other than California, is the next one going to hit a unsuspecting US city or some major city in the world?

Haiti got the coverage for the deaths. Chile's earthquake was much worse but less deaths, no ones really talking about that anymore. Yes, an earthquake can hit anywhere on the edge of a techtonic plate. California has been hit with worse earthquakes in the past then Chile's. In fact, there was one in Illinois not to long ago. You probably did not hear about it because no one died. The in-plate earthquakes like the one in Illinois scientists think has to with the stress collected with the plates.

I think the midwest is going to get the next big earthquake. The new madrid fault line runs right through it. The last time they had a major earthquake was in the early 1800's and they were 8.0+ earthquakes. The next time that fault slips it will be tragic.

Turkey had a big earthquake yesterday.....Forgot to mention Japan and Tiawan in my other posts as well.

HAARP? Prophecy being fulfilled?

HAARP is a possibility but we won't really know. It makes me wonder how much of a role is science going to play in the end times (if any role at all). While people are looking for some cosmic intervention, it could just as well be something that is right under our noses. Who knows, science could just as well be the Great Deceiver.
