Man, I can't believe I'm saying this about a nigga name Wacka Flaka, but I respect that dude now. I just listened to his response and I gotta say he's one of the realest people out there. I'm not going to say I agree with everything he said, but the way he presented his side and the way he tried to be the bigger man rather than just talking a bunch of shit like most people would is impressive.

I still think he's taking things wrong though. He shouldn't be looking at it as an attack on him. He said Meth should play that Godfather role and school the younger cats. Well, that's how he should have taken Meth's rant. When you getting schooled, not everything is what you're going to want to hear. The fact is, if he is going to be a Hip Hop artist, he should put work into his craft. He doesn't have to be the best lyricist in the world, but he should think lyrics are important enough to put effort into improving them. That's really all Meth said. He did have a good point though. A lot of people praise the foundation of Hip Hop, but forget that the Southern Hip Hop of today is more like the roots than most of what is considered "real" hip hop. Granted things should evolve and that's why I think mid 90's rap is the best. Still, it is a little contradictory for people to keep claiming that simple rap meant for partying and dancing isn't real Hip Hop when that's how Hip Hop started.

But the difference is that lyrics evolved and got better as times change....those simple party raps of the early and mid 80 were considered nice in those days because the game hadn't evolved yet.....

Aight lemme put it like this, let's in couple of years Microsoft releases Windows '12.....you buy it and find out that it's very similar to Windows 95...how would feel about that? People would call that shit garbage! Sure, it was nice in 1995, but the program has mad a ton of progress since then. Same with hip hop, the party lyrics were okay back then, but lyrical skills made program in the late 80s through the late 90s, but the regressed back to the 80s in the '00s. That's the problem people have with club songs nowadays.

I see what you're trying to say, but I don't think it's true. Using your own type of analogy, a new Office software just came out. Our company upgraded to that. Some people like all the new features and options. Some people would be happy to give those up to go back to the old Office because they were more familiar with it and it was easier for them to use. Music is the same way. Yes lyricism has evolved and a lot of Hip Hop fans appreciate that. However, it can't be denied that there are Hip Hop fans out there who preferred the more simplistic party rap. So the stuff that comes out today is still going to be welcome to them even if it isn't as refined as some of the other styles.

I've said it before, the fact that this party and simple rap exists isn't the real problem. The problem is that it is the only thing that is marketed strongly. There is no parity right now. If you had your Gucci Manes and Soulja Boys out there but also had people of other types being given shine, it would be all good. That's not what's going on though, and that's why music sucks.

I get your point perfectly. You're missing my point. I have acknowledged more than once that lyricism has progressed since then. However, that fact doesn't retroactively make it so that the previous style of music is not Hip Hop anymore. That would be like saying that since the official rules of basketball have changed over the years, if you go out and play a simple pick up game without adhering to all those rules then you're not really playing basketball anymore. That's not the case. There are plenty of different leagues and rulesets and the game is still basketball in all of them. The same goes in rap. There are plenty of subgenres and each may have different priorities but they are still rap. That party music from Sugar Hill Gang to Kid-n-Play is still Hip Hop. And music today that maintains that mold is still Hip Hop.
