I think this is a tenuous claim. Dude is the product endorser for a company he invested in, he didn't make this money from hip hop, he made it from Chinese factory workers putting together headphones after his record exec buddy asked him to be the name and spokesperson for the branding they were creating. This is not from record sales or from the music business.

This isn't a win for hip hop, it's a win for investing in tech firms and new multimedia.

I won't dispute he's set for life but to call this a win for hip hop is like suggesting I owe my boss if I use the money I make at work to buy a lottery ticket. Where the money comes from doesn't matter as much as what you do with it once you've got it in your pocket and how you invest it.

What are headphones specifically used for?

Last I checked they didn't come with a label specifying their use. Considering Lady Gaga and Justin Biever have had a Beats line, your point is moot since they've been marketed to pop and Eurodance fans too.

His image and allure (which come from hip hop) propelled the success of tge brand. Along wit catchy marketing ...the name of the product itself is genuis & enticing...which goes back to hip hoP...the shit is named beatz for god sakes

A beats by sonny bono or beats by sting, or whoever wouldnt have took off like this even if as intensly promoted

This is in fact a by product of hiphop. Dont try the make the shit deeper than it is

If you do your research you'll see this was Iovine's baby from the beginning when he wanted to invest in tech, Dre was brought on but the ball was already rolling between Monster and Iovine.

This is a case of a record exec working with an Asian tech firm and bringing on a black spokesperson to partner in as well. This is like Nike making Air Jordans and letting Jordan eat off his own branding with stock options and Adidas doing Stan Smiths.

Monster Cable goes back to 1979. Beats is a brand under them, just like Air Jordans under Nike.

This is a product of Jewish investment and Asian factory workers with a black guy as marketing. Just like RUN DMC and Adidas, Jordan and Nike, Jay Z and Nike. That's not deep, that's the facts once you stop trying to fuck with them to suit some agenda like this is any different. If Noel Lee and Jimmy Iovine hadn't got together and decided he was a better face for the brand than they were, Dre wouldn't have any headphone line with his name on it.

You're not wrong but a pawn can become a queen (no homo) or King if it gets to the other side of the board. We know he was just the face of it but he took equity investment instead of a one time check or just royalties per head set.

Apple deal not even done yet doe

Word. Shit is still in final negotiations. Let's let the shit happen and the ink dry before niggas start adding up Dre's pockets. Lol.

Exactly niggas believe anything the media throw out there

I hear it's more about the Beats streaming service (considered the best) rather then the headphones. The headphones while questionable in quality are profitable regardless.

And you need to listen to 2001 on quality speakers, an album released a good 15 years ago to know Dre is a master with musical sound which translated to his endorsing those successful headphones ..

Its all intertwined. Its still a win for HipHop ..

then what's beats gotta do with that? they ain't quality.

Ppl gotta stop acting like these beats by dre type deals are easy everyday type deals ppl talking bout other niggas need to take notes and follow dre's blueprint on how things are done but missing the part where you gotta be EXTREMELY lucky for something like this to happen cuz for every product that hits there's 1000 misses.....plus dre is SELLING his company so let's not act like if puff decided to sell his shares in ciroc or jay decided to just up and sell roc nation these dudes wouldn't be hitting that billie mark as well.... Smart move on Dre's part tho

Not to be a dick but its more common than you know in corporate America. What do you think these investment banks or investment companies big and small are doing on a day to day basis ? The global stock market facilitates $55 trillion, half of that is trading the rest is all wealth and transactions going thru. What do you think corporate lawyers are working on day to day ? Dre is an example of what happens when you branch out into the corporate world away from music. If you open up an annual report and read the cashflow statements of a business you'll see numerous acquisitions of smaller businesses done throughout the year. Most are so small tho they dont make a difference on the bottom line and aren't worth mentioning. Because Beats is Hip-Hop and the culture is relatively small compared to others it's a big deal.

This reminds me of when Obama said we got to be more than just entertainers and ballers cuz the worst thing rap ever did was close people's minds off to the possibilities outside of entertainment - especially in business.

Interesting post fam but I'm just saying it's not particularly rare or impossible. These things happen all the time it's just magnified because it's Dr.Dre.

I feel you I'm pretty sure these type of deals are quite common in the corporate world I was just tryna point out that for every billion dollar deal you have there are 1000's of failed business attempts especially in the culture of hip hop.....everybody ain't gonna be able to follow Dre's format and make a billion its gonna take extreme luck for that to happen which is apart of the reason why there's less then a handful of black billionaires that's where I was coming from not saying it's not a common thing in the corporate world just that it's not something where Dre put out the formula on how to be a billionaire....he worked hard and played it smart but he was also very very lucky

@sion Moral of the story there's way too much legal money to do petty crimes. Let's look at the ways you could make money from the deal. You could've been the accountant putting together the financial report, auditor reviewing it, investment bank analyst valuing the assets, lawyer reviewing the deal. But no niggas don't read right Ye?
