Yes it matters. You could say the dopest shit ever but have a wack voice and nobody will stay long enough to hear it. Point blank period.

Unique voices takes some getting used to, some people can get used to it and some can't.

I got used to Freeway & Boosie's voices but I can't fuck with B-Real however.

I think the voice needs to fit the content in order for it to be at its most effective.

I'm the opposite. I can fuck with Freeway and B-Real. Boosie will get the radio, stereo whatever tossed out the window as soon a bar is spit.

I couldn't imagine listening to a cat with dope ass lyricism content and concepts along with some banging ass production and stopping like ....yo! Hol up doh! What octave is this nigga voice in b! Ahhh nahhh I cants get jiggys to dis shit doh! ...like smh nigga really? You gotta purposely over look so many critical aspects of actual rap skill to allow a vocal tone to throw you off like some people do

And this is why I say flow matters more than voice, but a decent combination can mask a lot. What boosie had was a cartoonish kiddy sounding voice, with a thick atl accent, and a flow to pull it all together. Throw all that over a "trap beat", a couple of adlibs and niggas will love it. It works, tho without one or the other he prolly wouldn't sound as unique.

The voice is a rapper's instrument why wouldn't it matter??

The voice is only a rappers vehicle to show off the real quantitative skill in rappin which is ...the ability to manipulate words

Like seeds was saying ... I can distinctly tell you why this singer or that singers voice is great ... I can point to vocal range the ability to climb the scale being able to hold a note etc etc can you do that with rappers? Matter if fact can you even give me distinct reasons why a rappers voice is a "good" voice? Niggas listing random rappers names who all have totattly different sounding voices talking about "now see that's a good voice" lmao ... You can't even create criteria to judge what's a good voice and what isn't yet the shit is really that important to niggas? ....word?

Smh

Ohh god .... Always one niggaa that wanna come with some bullshit ..... Surely you can understand there being a difference between asking the importance of having a high pitch or low pitch voice... compared to a dude who once had a perfectly normal voice that people identified with only to tragically lose it to a near death accident ... He can barely talk ..let alone vocally entertain anyone

I'm old enough to have a broad view of hip hop and have experience in it.

Niggas C/S anything popular

I heard plenty of Boosie's music and like a few but, he's not a dope MC to me in comparison to what I've heard

@JDSTAYWITIT. if you hear a artist's voice and dont like it do you continue to listen? Can you be entertained by a nasal sounding rapper just because he is lyrical or will you grow tired of his voice.. Verbal dexterity is important but if nobody wants to hear what your saying due to your voice does it matter???

Maybe D.O.C. is an extreme example, but I think you're downplaying the importance of voice. You yourself mentioned that singers are judged for their vocals all the time, because it obviously effects the quality of their music. So why shouldn't the same apply for hip hop? Is it always going to be the most important thing? No. But is it important enough to make a difference? Yes, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse

Dog my point that I'm tryin to make is that in rap music the primary focus in judging the quality of a performance typically comes down to some aspect directly relating to lyricism ...whether that be wordplay content message etc etc ... Then you have flow cadence delivery etc etc ... Then you have the musical aspect ... Production arrangement etc etc .. So to sit here and say I can't listen to rapper B because his voice isn't "good" is crazy to me because there's so much other shit that goes into grading if a particular performance is quality as I stated above ... What's even crazier is to not listen to a rapper because of their voice not bein "good" and most of these niggas couldn't even tell you the components to having a "good" voice in the first place? How does that make sense ... Like i said its not singing ..rapping is different

And for the record q-tip is considered one of the best rappers of our time correct? ...now ...call me crazy but I could have swore he had one of the nasaliest rap voices to ever touch the mic .. But I saw a nigga list him along side other "good" voiced rappers!?!

Shit dont make no sense b..
